iConnect AUDIO with another interface
Is anyone else running an iConnectAUDIO (2 or 4+) in conjunction with another USB/Firewire/similar audio interface?
I have an iConnectAUDIO4+ which has been working fine. Well as fine as it can. But I have also bought a Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 (along with a compatible Firewire card) so I'm able to integrate more preamps via the optical IN on the Saffire in the future.
At one stage yesterday I had audio outputting from the iConnectAUDIO4+ after many, many routing scenarios. But in an effort to add a new USB MIDI controller the audio routing was lost and I'm unable to replicate the correct audio scenario.
I'll endeavour to create a flow diagram to help both other users and myself better understand what needs to happen for this to work.
Comments
reagarding the lost audio routing: the connection of the new interface may have reset the 'system' and unsaved settings were lost. With the iCA4+ it's not clear what's already saved and what's just the current work state that reappears after starting the interface.
Afaik there's no facility to save dedicated routings under their own name in IOS, not shure about Mac/PC though.
I assume the setup with both iCA and Saffire refers to a PC, which will not work with the regular Focusrite Asio software, as it ignores the iCA USB connection.
You need Asio4All to connect multiple interfaces like Apple's aggregated device does.
This will introduce additional latency for shure.
Anyway, given you're lucky to make this work... you have to use the iCA's virtual channels to route Saffire inputs to IOS via track output of your DAW software.
It will introduce another portion of latency - your iCA mic inputs (in IOS) will be a lot earlier than the Saffire mic inputs routed back via PC interface.
As this is digital streaming, your devices should be in perfect digital sync, which is not an easy task. So even if the connection seems to work, you should carefully check the (received) signal's quality versus the original input of the mic preamps.
