    Not sure that one is trustworthy. For example, it shows Patterning as being on sale, but when I click through I see the regular $9.99 price.

    The webpage musicappnews looked very promising when it was launched, and it is still one of my “always on” tabs in my Safari browser. Sadly it is not very well maintained, and the list of apps which is under surveilance for price drops and updates is far from exhaustive. And the news section is also not quite up to date, still linking to the sound test room and appsforaudio which are not very active at the moment.
    Any comments @tonappas ?

    Syntorial just sent out a customer circular teasing a Black Friday sale and a Serum lesson pack, but apparently not till the actual 24th. Nothing about it on their website yet.

    That would be cool. I'm really interested in the IAP but it is no where near my app budget range at full price.

    Yeah, I've been holding out for a Syntorial sale. For my needs, the $129 is too steep, but at the $89 it seems to go on sale for on occasion I can justify it, especially with the continual new content they release.

I'm self-taught in synthesis, and I felt like I walked away with a much better "vocabulary" for synthesis. It's certainly the equivalent of a hands-on class. I had so many "A-HA!" moments listening to the commentary on each aspect of synthesis.

    Knowing what I know now. I'd spend $129. I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a more structured understanding of synthesis.

    Finally, I'll say this:

    "500 presets!" How often do you hear a synthesizer evaluated based on how the presets sound. Newsflash: those presets (we called them patches) are the tip the iceberg. When you know how synthesis, you have an ~infinite~ number of presets at your fingertips. You don't know how a synth "sounds" if you only listen to the presets. In fact, some great synths have presets that suck.

    Look at it as purchasing unlimited free presets for life for about $100. The savings are endless.

    My favourite synth I’ve owned was an Alesis Andromeda. I thought the presets sucked with that. Agree that having some programming skills is worth it. I learnt by reading a series of articles in Sound On Sound lol. I must have spent a ton on all my music making mags back then!

    Yes. I'd love to see him do an FM synthesis tutorial. I've watched some great tutorials, but I always learn something new.

    But part of syntorial is its own synthesizer. It's very simple, but sounds great., He would have to add a new synthesis engine to teach another type of synthesis.

    It does have a Z3TA+ pack, which is really cool.

    What would you want to see?

    That's right, although it does also deal with post-processing techniques that are independent of synthesis method (envelope shaping, modulation, mono & polyphony, legato, portamento, as well as chorus, delay, reverb, &c.). The first five chapters (of 32 + 25 bonus challenges when you get to the end) are free, and you can view the contents of the rest to see what's covered. You can blitz through the first four in a single sitting, but then it quickly gets more challenging (and rewarding). Worth downloading just for the free synth and presets.
