iPhone alternatives for Master Record?

Is there an IAA tape saturation simulator for iPhone that's similar to Master Record?

    I dont think that's what I want; Master Record doesn't do tape echo. It simulates tape saturation like on an old reel-to-reel tape deck or analog studio recording.

    I love this one, but the effects are kind of subtle. I wish he'd rework it for some more exaggerated and more warped and distorted tape effects. At one point I thought he'd mentioned that it might go AU, but never heard anything else about it.

    Have you checked out Kai Aras' "Italizer"? It's AUv3, Universal, and can function in the effects slot as a Tape Echo.

    I wasn’t sure. It mentions “alias free tape saturation” in the app description but I guess that’s not independent of the delay.

    Tap delay is a great app and I don’t think it was a bad suggestion at all. You can set it to full wet signal with the shortest delay time (1ms) and then dial in as much saturation, tape hiss, bias and wow & flutter as you like without delay. Really warms stuff up I find.

    Not sure about other apps but maybe it’s worth mentioning the amazing noises limiter. It saturates, but I don’t really consider it tapey. Still, a useful one that.

    Possibly a similar thing could be done with AUFX:Dub. That has tape noise, warble amount and rate. You could just not apply any delay.

    I tried Holderness' Caramel app last night and it does have a few presets that come close to Master Record. Master Record is far superior in "doing what it does". I didn't explain what I was trying to do in the first place: I've been using Tonestack with my live guitar rig an really like it: My setup is: Guitar --> Alesis IO dock (iPad/Tonestack) --> Tube amp. It sounds great so far, but was missing a little something and I couldn't figure out what it was.

    Yesterday I was reading about how Keith Richards loved recording his guitar onto tape because of the saturation boost it gave, and even had used some of his personal demos on the final studio tracks. Master Record clicked in my head because that's what it does, and I got the idea to try that. I set it up it last night and bam it was like the magic bullet I was searching for. It gives my tone the subtle boost of thickness and warmth I was after.

    However I was loading Master Record as an IAA effect in Tonestack, and the problem was that adding the IAA effect caused my presets to load slowly (over 1 second). That's totally unuseable in a live setting. I thought about trying an iPhone instead since I have one with much faster processor, but Master Record is iPad only.

    Anyway, I was able to solve the slow preset problem last night on the iPad by running Master Record in an AB chain instead of as an IAA effect within Tonestack. The only downside to that is Master Record is running all of the time in my effects slot and can't be easily turned off. I don't see why I'd want to turn it off though as my guitar tone sounds great for me using just the 'reel to reel' preset with both clean and overdriven guitar.

    Incidentally through all of this I also learned one other thing last night; Running my guitar through Tonestack on my iPhone didn't seem to sound nearly as good as running the exact same setup and presets through my iPad 4, even though the iPhone has a much faster processor than the iPad.

    Anyway, hats off to Igor Vasiliev. I love all of his apps.

    If you are taking the audio out of the headphone socket of your iPad / iPhone then I think you might find that audio is much louder (better?) coming out of the iPad. It might just be that that you are noticing.

    audioeffx by virsyn has a tape distortion emulation that is pretty good. it does not include tape noise or asperity but it does yield a nice tape saturation tone.

    we deserve something like toneboosters reelbus or uhe satin, as an AU...
