Ipad lightning connector dock options?

Hi all, been using a Behringer is202 with my Ipad 2 for a few years with much success, but now need to step up to an Air 1 or similar. Been looking for something equivalent to the Behringer for the Air, came across the Alesis Io dock 2, Studio connect and Focusrite I track, but none of these options seem to be perfect/ have issues etc. Any other options out there?

I use an old Alesis I/O dock with a lightning to 30 pin adapter. The iPads no longer fit inside, but a bit of foam rectifys that to a degree. I assume the adapter would work on the Berhinger too.

  • What do you miss or issues you found?
Since cck3 usb come the most similar and reliable is use a hub (or audio interface with built in like Novation Audiohub or Akai eie red).

Tell us a bit more

  • @martygras, yes have considered that as an option, but not really the best.
@dubbyldabby, need something with casing to protect the ipad during live duties, so the audiohub etc won't work. The Studio connect and Focusrite fail on the protection front as well, the Alesis io dock 2 would be okay, but the need to fill out the gaps around the air in the Alesis is a pain.
    Any other ideas?

Well the first idea which come to my mind is “flightcase” but if it must be so sturdy then my advice is try to mimic your setup in dedicated hardware and forget about iDevices or almost those you use daily. As example (and mindset product of years wondering possibilities) I have made a diy keytar which I want to integrate an iDevice as main synth core. I’m going to use an old iPhone 4 due I bought a 5s. I ditched my mac mini based setup (very sturdy includding dedicated flightcase) due to balance between risk and revenue wasn’t on its side. Time to time I wonder how to build my own “all-in-one” like my old is202+iPad 3 combo and I keep my advice: custom flightcase.

These aren’t cheap (even doing it by yourself) but they worth the investment if you need what you need and there is not standalone hardware replacement. Obviously if you are considering professional gigging a dedicated insurace should be take in consideration too.

    Sorry for the OT...

  • Back again... :-)
Been thinking a lot about what is possible, seeing as an appropriate lightining-compatible dock doesn't really seem to exist.
I guess another possibility is to go the cck3 plus hub/ audio hub route (I actually have a Novation audiohub lying around), but are there any other 'all in one' possibilities, similar to the Korg plug key but with usb instead? Nb in an ideal world I need two usb a ports in any hub, one for a Nord Stage, the other for a Keith McMillen 12 step.
    Any ideas?

  • IConnectivity?

  • Yes, maybe that is the best option. Anything else?
