Official Lightning to USB3 camera connector 'not supported by this device'
Okay Apple, you tax dodging greedy shi*s.
No one here will deny that.
IMO these CCK devices are overpriced.
You buy a 3rd party one, it fails. Thanks Apple, for actively blocking the device (which worked at first) but begun failing after about half hour's use, thanks to friendly ios blocking it out.
So, you wait weeks, maybe months looking for an ebay bargain.
You get it. You're like, cool, finally. A1619 , official markings, CE 'designed by Apple' etc. etc.
And then, on your iPad Air 1, you better:
'This accessory is not supported by this device'
I am pissy. Yes I am. - because nowhere on the UK product page (Apple site) does it state which version of iOS is required. It says supported by iPad Air. So you think you're ok.
In 'questions and answers about this item' on the page, there are a massive zero Q&A's. Cool
I am skeptical about upping my iOS on this device because it's from 2014. Would it run ok?
Maybe I'm too frugal. People might say that. But I am no more frugal than Apple is greedy. In fact, by comparison... Lol, sure ya tax-evaders.
What annoys me about this is not just the absence of vital info, but Apple have such a high standard for accuracy, detail, yet overlook things like this. If indeed this Ithe actual problem.
Again, well done Apple for not giving me any clues at all in the error message, abouts what to do to fix the problem.

Apple isn’t a charity. Do you pay more tax than you legally have to?
Here’s an interesting Fortune article trying to explain Apples tax regime.
Who did you get your eBay bargain from? Is it possible that they have sold you a forgery?
I’ve not found any issues usieing the CCK3 with an iPad mini gen 1 or iPad Air2 or iPad Pro
Though I have had messages come up saying it neeeds updateing which it does when you just press the update button.
Apple is not a charity, why are you saying this?
I myself actually do work for a charity, but anyway.
I guess it could be a fake but it has all the markings that an official one would. Inc model number. I think my bro has an iPhone 6, I'll ask him.
Quick question then, which iOS version your devices on?
what version of ios are you on ?
the cck3 has worked perfectly for me since ios 9.1.3..... a legit one atleast.....
well, I have two official CCKs and had them for the last 3-4 years but it happened once or twice in the last couple of months that I'd get the message. It did go away on replug. Glitch?
I’m saying this because you said
‘Okay Apple, you tax dodging greedy shi*s.
No one here will deny that.”
And actually I do deny that. I fail to see the relevance of your line of work though.
and I have used the cck with iOS 9 10 and 11.
The order in the connection process also matters...
Usually brands recommend: first plug the usb hub into cck3 (if powered, power it up), second plug usb devices into the hub (let one port between the connection if you can. Most recommended for the audio intrface to avoid noises and disconnection), third plug the cck3 into the iPad.
This way you can avoid the common message about “the pheripheral is drainning too much power blabla) and maybe the warning you have. The moment it usually works, it doesn’t give more problems.
Said that I remember a cck update which brang that error and lately apple fixing it. Maybe yours needs a firmware update?
I wouldn't use a Lightning to USB3 camera connector that is not purchased in an Apple store. Neverever. Sorry.
Beside this i absolutely appreciate that you wrote: "Apple, you tax dodging greedy shi*s".
They do everything they can cheating IT engineers to Cork for low income (and off course: absolutely no career options as told to them). Apple profits from the European education (and some of the best engineers they have are fom Europe) and they profit from the law system etc. But Apple (paying about 50.000 Euro per year at all for tax in Europe - LOL, now slightly more) lies to all of us writing crap like:
https://www.apple.com/ie/customer-letter/
Lies. Apple lies to us all. They don't pay US taxes for the profit they make in Europe.
Oh, and i really think Tim Cook and most of the overpayed top manager are bad persons. They are not interested in society at all. They don't think they have any responsibilities.
I have an Air2 and CCK-3 worked for me on iOS 10. I run iOS 11.1 now and it is still fine.
Probably a dumb question, but are you sure your iPad is complaining about the CCK and not the USB device you are attempting to use?
P.s. I think you are right about Apple.
Same here now and then - no idea what triggers this.
Regarding Apple's tax attitude and their recent tax news: imho it's complete EU bullshit.
I visited their facility in Cork, Ireland in early 90s and they talked quite frankly about the deal with the local government - which was considered a win-win situation for both parties.
Before Apple, Seagate and others went to Ireland there was an extremely high unemploymant rate - which changed with every tech company that settled there.
The government traded tax versus developement of the region and that deal was considered perfectly legal when it was signed.
Apple wasn't as big as today back then and nobody cared ... and EU wasn't as blown up either. This has changed significantly...
(...) a win-win situation for both parties.
So, then all powerful people and big companies should avoid to pay tax at all. Win-win!!
Surely a win for Apple and perhaps for Ireland. As for everyone else, oh well...
you're simply ignoring the fact that this deal was signed by Apple when it was not exactly wealthy at all and it was appreciated by locals - the tax reduction was public and not a hidden part of the deal.
For decades the contract was of no concern, but now that Apple literally shits billions... it's just too tempting to invent a reason to sue them.
By an institution that itself burned billions of regular citizen's savings by creating a currency.
Tbh I dislike Apple's recent product policy, but the EU is a nightmare in comparison
ps: sorry for the off topic
Apple really is a great company. Especially in Ireland. Win-win everywhere!!! Tim Cook seem to love his Ayn Rand textbook.
For example, they do their very best so that irish workers (or internationals) don't have to worry about their pension rights. After 11 months your team will come to a very nice room and get told, that you (and all of your crowd) have 20 minutes to leave the building. Then, 2 months later, you maybe get a phone call, that they have a job offering for you - the same job as before, with the same minimum wage.
Apple: The master of fairness. Hey, and every-th-ing is legal!! Apple loves it to be legal. A great company - a big win for society.
Especially in Europe.
@ u0421793
Great video about irish astronauts. I love it!!
My experience with CCKs has been that the error message almost always refers to the device you’re attempting to connect, not the CCK itself. I recall several years ago coming to the understanding that devices that draw too much power - which is allowed by the USB spec, but not [apparently] fully supported by Apple - were often the issue. I’ve had bus-powered USB keyboards that would not connect via CCK, but would work if run through a powered hub. YMMV.

I bought a 2 meters charging cable from ebay (lightning to USB), at 1/3 of Apple sellers of my town. It came into an official Apple box, it works ok, never get an error message.
I think buying accessories from not official circuits is like playing games, in my came averything was ok.
This.
But even if you win round one of the game you may lose round 2 on the next iOS update.
I have had this happen with expensive official camera connection kits before, it usually gets fixed just after I buy a new one! I think iOS updates are the cause, they try to detect non-Apple accessories and disable them.
In the past I have returned the camera connection kits to the shop, where they plug it in to another device and it magically works again. I had to bring my iPad with me and make sure the replacement cck is working before I leave the shop.
don't forget the (non) obvious check - your device needs to be charged to over 50%.
What other companies do this ?. I can't think of any that stop me using after market products.
In my mind I feel apple are extremely greedy.
Build quality of apple products is normally fantastic, but such a large company roll out updates that still have bugs.
If all these amazing apps worked on other platforms I would dump my iPad tomorrow.
Always had the latest phone including the 7.
But now am very happy with android phone, but still iPad for music all day long.
But when you sit at the top of the tree, you loose vision, and start believing in your own hype, no headphone jack, can you charge wirelessly yet. Oh no not yet, and when you can apple will act like they invented it. Bit like facetime etc.
There's only 1 way to go when you are at the top, did I hear a rumour that iPhone may get a pen at sometime, I am sure Mr jobs mentioned that would never happen.
Since steve's very sad passing I feel that apple is more about money than inovation and customer satisfaction.
Sorry if my moaning has bored all of you, but feels nice to get it off your chest once in a while.
Move along
It never happened to me with all of my original accessories.
iPad 2 ruuning iOS 7.x, iPad4 running 9.x, iPhone 5s running 9.x
might just be certain interfaces - when I charged up it worked again.
Hot tip. Had not heard of that one. Thank you.
...But good to know it, if it happens with another devices.
I've used my cck3 when my iPad had just 9% charge at it's lowest. So not really the case atleast on my air2.
Big companies are attracted to Ireland by low taxes so little goes to the government and theoretically more goes to the people. The problem is that on a rainy Irish Sunday people will go to the shopping centre to spend their money because public services will receive less. So children centres and civic activities become less. People potentially become richer financially (unless they spend it on culture or doughnuts and plastic) and arguably likely become culturally poorer.
This is a way societies based on money go.
Bite the bullet go to the Apple shop and buy one if your serious about making music on a iPad there is no other choice. They got us in a corner over these things I’m sorry to say because of the firmware built into them.
@supadom leave that to off topic - your're the same ho or on the same drug as me feeding the beast
Apple wasn't that mega-corp when they built the Irish factory and a (legal) deal is a deal.
More than happy to leave it OT. I wasn’t contesting the legality, rather the philosophy
Might have to wait until we auto destruct and re-evolve.
