He’s baaack! John Walden from Music App Blog

Ok, so maybe he’s cut down but I somehow knew he wouldn’t stay away long. Music App blog is a means of expression for him. He’s got two new reviews, one of Kauldron and of Odessa. Oh, happy joy.. Who else besides me felt a real emptiness in the iOS world without his contributions.. John, if you’re reading this, please don’t stop!

  • Thanks goodness!

  • Yes, I'm happy to see more content, but I wasn't too broken up to learn he was pursuing other opportunities.

In my mind, it's similar to a friend at work leaving for another job. Sometimes you stay in touch or work together again somewhere down the road.

  • I applauded his decision to follow his primary passion, but I was very disappointed that he wasn’t going to keep his blog active anymore.

John’s reviews and general assessments are the most thoughtful and evenhanded that I’ve read in the little iOS sound world.

So, if he’s decided to pop back into it every now and then, that’s the best news I’ve read today. :)

Often, you just need to take a break from the pond when it starts to feel stagnant. I’m long overdue for a little break myself.

Off to read John’s review of Kauldron. Very much interested in his assessment. :)

  • Nice,i always liked reading his reviews.I still hope he'll review BM3 someday...

  • Are you sure this isn’t just the App Store making it look like 2015 again?

  • Johns articles helped me a lot finding my way in iOS when I first dived in about a year ago

    Respect

  • I love John's writing and have gotten so much out of his reviews and insight. Thing is it's human nature to treat things we love with great reverence and import. Instead of making a big declarative statement of "I'm not going to do this" just reducing the output accomplishes the same thing.

John said in his post here he's keeping the site up so really, if that's the case, just do what you can do or feel like doing. If an app grabs your attention (like Odessa & Kauldron did) write a review. If you are too busy or aren't feeling it, no worries.

I'd rather have a sporadic Music App Blog than none at all. One last thing: I know there were some guest columns & reviews in the past so I think that would be a good solution to keep content coming in. I know I wouldn't be adverse to writing be a review here & there and am sure some of the more verbose amongst us like me would review & write op-ed type pieces too.

Just a thought, either way, glad John posted a few reviews and hopefully he'll just take it a dayattatime regarding the site & his output. We all understand wanting to be more productive musically or being overwhelmed with our own constructs, real or imagined. If it were me I'd let the App Blog be a living entity, on its own terms, rather than a do or die daily albatross.

Best of luck to John & I encourage those who haven't been to the site to check it out. Newcomers especially, it's an education in itself going through the archives, you'll learn about all the major apps of the last few years in no time.

    Be cool...

  • I wish him the best in his new endeavors but again, his reviews are pure art in and of themselves. He innovated the reviewing process . Nobody like him.
