Turnado is on sale - is it worth the money?

Yes, buy it if the videos appeal to you.

  • how long is the sale on for?

  • Turnado can get wild but is surprisingly deep if you dig into the effects.

The dictator thing is super fun to sweep through.

I bought it full $ no regrets.

Agree with @lukesleepwalker , check the vids and if it’s remotely your cup of darjeeling go for it.

All sugar bytes are on sale right now....or most of them anyway.

  • If you like rhythmic effects then Turnado is the dogs bullocks. Presets are good enough to keep you happy but if you want specific stuff you can dual it in. This is by far my most used effect app. It is also very well optimised and light on the cpu.

It also has a dictator function where one slider can control all of the effects at once. This can result in some very interesting and unexpected stuff. It has a randomiser too.

Also midi is superbly implemented so pretty much everything can be midi learned.

Buy it buy it buy it!

  • Turnado is very powerful. I highly recommend it for a performance effect. One small problem at the moment though: one of the available fx, LOOPER, which I use a lot, drifts out of sync after about 30 seconds. Other than that everything is tight. A bit of a learning curve, but a lot of fun awaits.

  • They say sale ends Monday, they’re meaning next Monday?

  • edited November 2017

    Oh SNAP!
...10 minutes later. iPhone version runs and looks good on my iPad in AUM playing an Odessa sequence. Raunchy little sucker, love it!
    Thanks for the heads up.

  • One of my favourite apps.

  • Turnado is straight dope ! Love it ..just picked it up, along with Egoist, Effectrix, Thesys and WOW since they’re all on sale, which completes my long awaited sugar bytes collection on iPad.
Now if I can get fabfilters on sale, I’ll be a very happy camper.

I wondered if I should perhaps wait, in case it’s marked down even more on black friday, but didn’t want to take a chance missing out entirely if the current sale that ends Monday is all she wrote.

They seem to have taken down their effects bundle during the sale, which I was hoping to find for half off the usual $40 .. ended up paying $30 for the 3 seperate apps in it, saving $10.

A bit disappointed that Egoist interface is a bit sluggish on my 2017 12.9 iPad Pro, but it’s not unusable by any means. Runs great on my iPad Air 2, so I’m guessing it isn’t optimized for the higher resolution. I somewhat expected it though, as I’ve had Unique for a while and its even worse, almost unplayable with the onscreen keyboard.

  • Is there a way to mute effects? Like a blank effect or type of volume control. So keeping things mapped to a controller. Simply not apply the effect if you do tweak by mistake via midi?

Each of the effects is controlled by a dial. If the dial is at zero the effect is turned off.

  • theres a mappable bypass button for each of the 8 effects.

I know. I also have a controller that I can name. To indicate what effect I tweak and not tweak but in the case of not naming on controller. Thought it might be better if there were a way to bypass the effects. Even if midi mapped.

I will just have to name on controller and/or not midi map. I think.

Will the bypass button work via screen?

  • You can tap it on the screen. It’s tiny tho…

    Cool AA. Thanks

  • i believe they send midi back to the controller as well. all the knobs are bidirectional midi. its kinda the best thing about sugar bytes stuff

What do you mean AA? Is it. If you have a controller with motorised faders? They would move to turnado?

  • so yes. i actually have a bunch of motorized faders waiting to be breadboarded for this reason and others.
Was gonna replace the joysticks from this project with faders, and combine it with another project....

    Insane. You made the controller?

Reason I asked about muting turnados. Were because each turnado were just for each drum part. Will see if I need so many effects on drums but turnado is mad. When you use routings.

Can the Turnado hardware midi controller project be used with other software?

  • edited October 2021

i havent built it yet. its just a midi controller, so I assume it will work with other things.
@steve99 has one in his pic in the "show us your studio" thread. he might be able to shed some light.

the developer/designer is super responsive as well.

i'm actually borrowing from that controller for an expansion module to my megacommand for my machinedrums, so I can have momentary changes to the encoder parameters (instead of twisting them all to hell and back).
(actually could use someone who could help me with some c+ stuff for it)

That's only possible for one month after the initial post, which happened in 2017.
A separate thread would be better.

Lately, I've been trying to ignore these zombie posts from 2017 but curiosity gets the better of me when they hang around and then... you open them to find out there are a dozen comments saying "The title is misleading." and not much more.

Does it make sense to search for an old thread to ask a question about an App and if you do should you
consider the title in that decision? I think you should. The reduction in database resources and
the fact that a new reader might have to scroll through pages of content to see the "new" question
    needing attention.
