Interesting, thanks! I don't know anything about IAA sync though, where can I find it and how do I use it?

I quite like Link otherwise because it's very straightforward to use and just works. Fingers crossed they do add this feature like BlueGreenSpiral says

IAA sync is not the same as MIDI clock, but the "standard" way for IAA apps and plugins to sync to their host and follow their transport state (stopped/playing). It's been on the desktop for decades, and has been part of IAA from the start.

Many apps implements it, some do not. Some needs to have Link turned off. When implemented and enabled, you just host the apps in a host with transport (AUM, AB3, Cubasis, Auria, etc) and press play and it "just works". (UPDATE: Sorry, I just tested and it seems AB3 does not send host sync)

Tack! So with AUM one would first disable Link inside the apps and then press the play/pause button at the top left then. I just tried with SECTOR (turned IAA sync on) and it works great! Sadly Fugue Machine and a couple more apps I use don't seem to support IAA sync so the transport buttons don't work on them, but they do still sync with SECTOR in AUM if using Link with them. So I can play/pause/restart SECTOR through AUM using IAA sync and still have it match the other apps perfectly (as long as they started in sync), without using Audiobus at all. Or control it all in Remote, regardless of whether they're doing IAA or Link, and it works. Class! It's good to have options, especially when they play well with each other.

    This is so much fun.

Are there any plans to make transport control MIDI mappable in AUM in the future btw?

Thanks for the information @Tarekith. This could be huge for live performance, I hope many apps integrate this new Link protocol.

I'm thinking any Link enabled app with timeline markers, patterns or scenes could potentially be setup to play from different patterns or specific points in the arrangement remotely... I would love the ability select these start points via midi or AB Remote.

The iOS music world moves fast, curious to see what happens next...

    Great :)

They already are! Check the "MIDI CTRL" page in the main menu. You can map them to note or cc, or use MIDIMachineControl messages.

I think I might faint of sheer joy

I knew that joining this forum rather than just lurking around like I had been doing for a long time was a good idea.

    I'm so happy!

I’ve just tried egoist and patterning in AB3 and it works fine with LINK disabled. I don’t know what midi sync protocol is used but they do start and stop as should.

As I said above, it's not midi sync at all. IAA sync is not related to MIDI in any way. :)
