numerology 25% off

numerology, the utterly fantastic modular step sequencing environment for mac os, is having a very rare 25% off until dec 31.

http://www.five12.com/hq/Store

if you really like quantum and want to disappear down the modular sequencing rabbit hole, this is as good as it gets... but it is not super beginner friendly.

again, mac only. works brilliantly over IDAM and also with launchpads. happy to try and answer questions.

  • Man, that is tempting. LE seems like it would be plenty for me and is almost justifiable but scales are realllllly nice to have. As is unlimited undo.

Looks interesting. Do you use it to create both melodies and harmonies from scratch?

  • yup... also has the best drum sequencing i have ever seen. never seen midi groove clock programming anywhere else.

  • Very tempting..

I have a dozen midi sequencers already. What makes this one so much better, from your perspective?

It's really complete. Kind of the Reason, of step sequencers. You have your rack of different sequencing machines going, and then you can turn them off or on, or select patterns, on a linear timeline, to make a song.

There's a single note sequencer, a poly note sequencer, a drum sequencer, and a chord sequencer. You can do stuff, like patch the chord sequencer up to the mono note sequencer, and the mono notes will follow your chord progression, and stay in key. Really cool! There is nothing close on ios.

  • One really simple thing it does, that I haven't seen on other sequencers, is it refers to each note as a number, of it's relation, in the scale to the root note, rather than C, Ab, G, etc., which makes so much more sense. Same with the chords, like I, IV, V. It's such a more useful way of calling out the notes.

Along with Metasynth it is one of the few pieces of audio software that have PC users wishing they had a Mac.

  • the good

brilliant sequencers, mono, two kinds of poly, chord, drum, each the best at what it does that i have seen

brilliant modulators, lfos, step sequencers which output cv or cc, and pretty much any value can be modulated in many ways

both pattern based and arrangement based song modes

crazy brilliant groove clock which lets you arbitrarily move beats around in the clock stream, a whole universe beyond simple swing... can not overstate this

it uses a humble launchpad as a hardware front end, really works well

has stand alone app and also a VST plugin, also AU midi fx plugin for logic

powerful random generation and mutation of patterns

the bad? it has a non retina UI, a single threaded audio engine, and is kinda drab looking overall. supposedly these are being addressed in next update. also the rewire support never worked for me.

  • I got it. I already have a very nice song going. It's bloody brilliant, actually. The only issue so far is that I can't seem to choose soundflower as an audio out device...

  • The most versatile sequencing tool i´m lurking for a long time.....but the GUI is so yesterday so i still can´t get warm with it every time i try the demo.

For 5 dollar? No way! ;)

It has a demo to try out. The price of this has always put me off...

For the content and what it can do....not more expensive as iOS apps ;)
But i anyway end mostly using Logic‘s intern midi FX. Great GUI, better usability and really versatile as well.
And compared to Logic itself everything seems to expensive :o

  • I notice the groove clock (I'm putting them in Quantum too) - you can't alter step 1 and it seems independent of sequence length. I take it this 'overlays' sequences (so a groove clock of 1 bar just repeats for a 4 bar sequence)?

I can understand not modifying step 1 (press play it has to start on-time right?).

  • yeah you cant move beat one in the groove clock because all the orher beats are relative to it... great news about adding the groove clock to quantum!
