Lost my iPad. Can I get good results with my 7+?
Yep I had my iPad air2 stolen or misplaced! My question is this? I have a iPhone 7+ and I’m a complete appaholic and iOS music creator. What would be a good DAWish app to use? I was and had been using cusasis2 for everything I was doing musically. My creations would always end up in Cubasis one way or another. So what might be a good choice as far as making music on my iPhone? I have pretty much everything in the way of apps but I can’t seem to enjoy making anything on my phone. I tried GarageBand and it seems like a slow workflow. I have AUM and it’s great for jamming out. I mess with Gadget but it’s pretty self contained? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe FL Studio mobile? I don't use it, but it is universal.
MultiTrack DAW is universal too, but it looks like it is audio only, no Midi.
I have a 7+ and despise using it in place of my iPad 5th gen. So I barely use it unless I’m on a subway or something.
BeatHawk is good, though very different than Cubasis and is mostly self contained unless you are good at midi stuff. Xequence + AUM is a great combination. BeatMaker 2 is universal. Though it’s old, it still does a very good job. FL Studio Mobile is pretty good, but still has a lot of rough edges. Infinite Looper (universal) or Aleph Looper (iPhone Only) is really great, but very different workflow from Cubasis.
If I lost my iPad myself, I’d go with Xequence + AUM primarily.
BeatMaker 2 is a good tool for the phone and Garage band is becoming very capable after the last update!
Have you tried Caustic? It's also very light on CPU usage and optimised for mobile devices.
This or Nanostudio
So I have all that was mentioned above and thank you for the suggestions. I have caustic3 and AUM. I have GB and everything in between. It just seems like I’m going to have to wait for something more capable. For now it’s mixing and matching from everything into GarageBand? I do like caustic3s workflow. Wish it did IAA. That would be great. Looks like GarageBand for the time being.
@Morgman73 I hope you get your iPad back. Hopefully just misplaced, not jacked.
I don't want to be condescending, but you have tried looking for it using 'find my ipad' haven't you? And put it into lost mode.
@pauly Yep I did all that. I think it got taken from my girls house when I was napping? I napped with the door open and like a jackass my pad was on the couch. Sucks. Oh well. Lesson learned.
I have BM2. Is it capable?
Man, really sorry to hear about your ipad! Definitely keep trying 'Find my iPad'. It might turn up.
Very. It can be a little confusing/tap-happy but it's got the goods for sure. If you already own it, I'd start there. Otherwise, I agree with @wim ("If I lost my iPad myself, I’d go with Xequence + AUM primarily.").
I’d go for Music Studio

I’ve been messing with BM2 and it’s cool. Can knock beats up fast but still it seems limited? Does anyone know if Xequence supports AU? And can I start and stop it in AUM? From there can I send data to all my other apps sitting in AUM? I think that would be pretty cool. Right?
You can point BM2 MIDI tracks at AUs hosted in AUM. Think BM2 got a late update with LINK support (but don't quote me, it's been a while). If so, yes, you should be able to start and stop it from AUM.
I’m gonna give it a try. I’ll report back. Thanks.,
Xequence doesn’t host apps of any kind. It’s purely a midi sequencer. It works excellently with AUM in that you can host all your instruments in AUM and send midi to them from Xequence. Right now, “starting” AUM from Xequence isn’t possible, but that’s only a problem if you’re trying to run apps that their own sequencers in time with Xequence. If all you’re doing is sending notes and automating parameters in those apps, they react to Xequence on their own without needing to start AUM.
Confusing explanation, I know. Sorry, I don’t know how to make it more clear at the moment.
No I get that much. I guess there’s really no need to have the sequencer start from AUM of all I’m using AUM for is a host/ mixer? Right?
Right, unless you want to use the internal sequencers of apps like Elastic Drums in time with Xequence. It would also be handy for mixing down to audio stems without having to do so much trimming and other purposes. But, workable.
Can I do AU automation with Xequence by chance? If that’s the case, we’ll i would for sure be sold.
And say if I do mix down to stems? What would be the best way to play those stems? Without Cubasis In my life it’s a big pain In The butt for me right now. Oh well. I’ll keep Pushin cause I love to make music. Thanks.
