Making notes
Ive found myself relying more and more on making notes. Sounds, mixer routeing and set up configurations etc etc.
Started off scribbling notes with stick diagrams on a jot pad and now its progressed to printouts with screen grabbed images in a ring binder…next ill be compiling an index
Gone are the days when the only thing scribbled down were lyrics. Maybe you are lucky enough to remember all this stuff, hopefully it's just an age thing … please tell me I’m not alone

I think that's very sensible. With the massive number of options at our disposal these days, making a plan of the playing/recording process ensures you're getting the most out of your gear, and not just booting up the same old apps.
I do it too - I quite enjoy working out a plan of action, and it's more important for me these days as I switch files back and forth to the desktop.
Oh yeah, I make notes all the time. Permanote and Notability being my allies. It’s the only way to keep track of it all, except for those blessed with an eidetic memory.
I have my whole life in Evernote.... In the past I also used OneNote, which I actually prefer to Evernote (it's easier to organise, it's like the best 3 ring binder ever made) but it lacks cross-platform comparability. Evernote works on my phone, my iPad, all my computers etc... It's subscription though, so not everyone's cup o tea.
FWIW, Permanote and Notability both sync perfectly with Dropbox. So whatever platform I’m using I have access.
+1 for Notability. Really useful app, I use it many times every day.
I don’t know about direct comparisons with Evernote (i.e. specifics) but I can say that it works on my iPhone, iPad and Mac, everything automatically syncs across all 3, it supports the Apple Pencil, there’s no subscription model (I think it was €10 each for the iOS and OS X apps, done and dusted) and I’ve never had any problems with it.
please tell me I’m not alone
I use index cards for individual songs... When I have more than one in the works, I keep them together with a paper clip
Ideas, I register in Evernote
I honestly like Apple’s Notes app the best. Especially now that I’ve got a Pencil...the handwriting isn’t quite as smooth in Notability.
Look at yall with ya fancy apps

I'm old skool with my pen n paper
Might take a little longer to get down but I reckon it's safer
I would be totally lost without Notes app and my ever present yellow legal pads.
However, never never never write down a procedural checklist of a crime. Please. Just don't.
This!
It saddens me to say it, but I often record "verbal notes/ideas" on my phone ... always reminds me of Alan partridge
I don’t do any of this and hence do not have a bloody clue from one minute to the next of what is going on!
I do this too! When I find good app combinations I talk to myself bout the set up lol
Yeah talking to myself is the norm. It’s amazing how much I agree with my own plans
Nothing wrong with that. Not at all. I remember being out and often calling home and singing lyrics, melodies, riffs (even muttering bon mots) into my landline answering machine.
Haven’t tried the others, but Notes does it for me too, especially with the latest update. That and a pile of 300 post-it’s on the desk.
Oh my god, all the bon mots I’ve voice memoed but not yet got a chance to use! Plus melody ideas, lyric snippets, movie and sitcom ideas or dialogue that’ll never be used, bull sessions at the studio, and most importantly, funny or cool-sounding (but realistic) fake names [see: Oat Phipps]. Yeah, my voice memos take up a lot of my phone space...I’m well over 3,000 now.
I've been a long time Evernote user (going back to the old "ticker tape" standalone desktop app) but have switched to OneNote due to Evernote's pricing and stagnation, plus we use OneNote heavily at work. I use OneNote on Windows, Mac, iPhone, and iPad with no issues or complaints.
Maybe I need to take a fresh look then, because there was a time when the iOS and Windows versions were completely different, which is why I switched to Evernote.
OneNote is pretty fantastic.
I've been a long time Evernote user, and still use it to keep track of copy/pasted random stuff, but I've recently fallen in love with GoodNotes. It works fantastically well with the Apple Pencil, has a great zoom window for writing on, so that you can write bigger and neater, but produce notes with smaller writing if you're just reading back. You can type or write, drag stuff in with iOS11 drag'n'drop, and it provides full search capability of handwritten notes. And I find that the skeuomorphic notebooks look closest to my graph-paper engineering notebooks. I've stopped using pencil and paper at work for notes, having switched over about 6 weeks ago, and I haven't looked back. I now use this for music projects as well. Didn't like handwriting in Evernote/Penultimate, used Nebo for a little while but found it to have significant flaws.
lol It's amazing how much I fight with myself
I use Notability and the native Notes apps for much of my music note taking; also use the text feature in AudioShare quite a bit. Also GarageBand has a note function but I haven’t tried it yet.
Yeah, I... um, what were we talking about again?
May I ask what ‘paper’ layouts GoodNotes offers? Ruled, graph, chart, etc (and can you create custom ones?) Also, does it offer a wide variety of ‘paper’ and ‘ink’ colors?
Bunch of different types of paper: ruled, graph (including all sorts of log and semilog), chart, Cornell, various writing styles (single and double spaced, 5 line, 7 line), music paper (staff, guitar tab). “Ink” comes in 8 preset colors and 4 widths, but you can select from a grid of 130 colors and have continuous width control. It’s not in the same category as Procreate as an artistic sketching app, but is great for simple hand drawn figures. Paper is at least white and off-white, not sure if there’s more than that.
I go between Evernote for personal stuff and (mostly) plain markdown files for work. Evernote formatting drives me nuts. I'm back on the free plan but it's ability to search text in photos is pretty amazing.
I used One Note for a while at my last job and hated it. Will have another look though (along with other suggestions here).
Do Notability or GoodNotes offer a web interface? Brief look at them and I couldn't find one. Local apps are great but sometimes I really appreciate being able to log into the Evernote web site. Actually, that's mostly how I use it on the desktop now that I think of it.
Do any offer Evernote import? Been using it for years and years.
