30pin to Lightning female adaptor Apple don't seem to do one, unofficial any chance?

hey guys,

I've acquired an old iphone 4s which I've managed to update to ios8.

What I want to do is use it as a vocoder with VoxSyn.

The picture should illustrate what I'm after.

Basically I've recently bought the Apple USB3 CCK but when I think about this setup.. the CCK has lightning connector which obviously no good for a 30pin port on an iPhone4s. So I looked around on Apple's site, but they don't seem to do one. Unofficial cables/adaptors has caused me enough grief already so what are my chance please?

Anyone know if a simple generic / cheap 30pin to lightning female would work in my setup?
we all know how awkward the 3rd party gear can be.

(picture just because I was bored at work)

thanks all!

    This

  • ok good point, I guess I could.
    30pin to usb female.
do they do an official one or would i be ok with a 3rd party?

  • you need the 30pin CCK, if you want to connect the iPhone to the UPhoria.
30pin to USB is just for charging.

  • I want a 30 pin female to male usb or or female lightning to male usb for my line 6 mobile in? Trying to old gear onto a new device! Lol :-)

There is an official what I recommend you to use.

This makes no sense... Do you know the difference between host and endpoint device?

  • When I still had my iPad 2 I got the old 30-pin CCKs(Both USB and the 'Card Dreader').

Even now days I've got use for the 30-pin female->lightning adapter so I can use the 30-pin Line6-MobileIn with my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 5 :)

So for the 4s getting hold of the 30-pin CCK is the proper solution.

The line 6 mobile in has a 32 pin connector that plugs directly into the old iPhone 4s. I bought a female 32 pin to lightning cable which worked perfectly on 6s but not now on newer models due to the omission of the headphone jack. I want to connect the mobile in to the cck3 but cannot find a suitable adapter.

  • Also the 30pin sd card reader works fine via 30pin to lightning adapter

  • If you are talking about this...

This only works one side it’s difficult (near to 99%) using it as usb device... said that the other 1% is to make your own reverse 30 pin cable. I saw someone selling one of these for Numark idj Pro but I never tried to do one of them so no warranty.

You can try by yourself maybe...

    The 30p>lightning was official?
Official 30p>lighnting usually work. I can make some test if you need since I have similar gear (old iPhone4, irig midi, 30p>usb, lightning>30p...)

And even if you would find such an adaptor the lightning port can not be used for other than charging :(
(Ie. the Belkin stuff with Lightning and 3.5mm Jack only work for charge and listening thru the 3.5mm jack).

The Line6 MobileIn is my 'default device' for recording Audio on the iPad Air 2 while monitoring thru the headphone jack. If I have to use the Behringer UCA-202 I avoid using it for output at the same time as it 'bleeds back'(crosstalk) to the inputs while recording so the usage of the built-in headphone jack is a must to get 'clean' recordings while monitoring...

  • Im doing all this simply because: (well i say 'simply!')

My only goal with this really is to be able to use VoxSyn with the mic and keyboard as a vocoder.

I could do it on my ipad Air (i've got a usb3 cck for it) but it wont work unless i update the Air to ios11.
I'm reluctant to do that because it's running at an acceptable speed for a 4yrs old device on ios 8.1)

don't really think im in a position to overhaul and upgrade to a newer ipad. If i traded in my Air and bought a Pro 9.7 it would cost me about £200. So when I got hold of this iphone4 for £50 i thought, oo! this could work out.

I guess really, I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy yet another CCK (this time the 30pin version).
would be nice if they were a little cheaper (being older than the lightning ones) but that's just the way it is.

Yes the cable is a genuine Apple product and it works fine on the iPhone 8 but I need a headphones to practice with. I have seen female lightning to micro USB adapters but not standard usb?

Plan was to plug the mobile in to a usb hub which also has a usb audio device for the headphones.

That's unfortunately a 'no can do'. I would have loved to use the Line6 MobileIn with my computer as well...
(I've even read about people trying to make their own 30-Pin Female to USB-A and it simply doesn't work).

    Thanks Samu :-)

Looks like I will have buy the newer version which I believe has usb support. I’d better buy a bunch of flowers at the same time! ;-)

Well, Line6 doesn't make any 'small' interfaces anymore, they are all 'huge'(ie. the Sonicport VX Line).
Good thing is though that the Line6 MobileIn can still be used to 'unlock' the MobilePod app which is pretty sweet!

  • Hi @SkillipEvolver
Does the keystudio have a physical midi out port ?
If so ,you could buy a used behringer istudio ( they are very cheap nowadays) .
Keep in mind that the iPhone will be "floating" in the connector .

  • My bet after read all is go for another interface with headphones and the proper apple adaptor in each device... or buy something like Korg R3

  • I'm not buying another audio interface. I just recently bought this behringer.
I like this interface and im sticking with it.

  • I’m curious as to how you managed to upgrade it to ios8 not 9.35.

Use it with the proper adaptor then. I was talking about the line6
