Reloading AUM saves
Just before I had to reload my whole iPad, I saved a few AUM saves
If I click on them, it immediately opens AUM, which then proceeds to close to background and nothing is loaded. Anyone know if reloading these files is possible without a computer?
Comments
AUM can't open files directly from iCloud. Especially since they're not downloaded locally! Try moving them into the AUM folder in "On My iPad", then they should be available as normal in the FILES menu of AUM.
UPDATE: I've now improved this for the next AUM update, opening projects from other locations via Files app should then work fine, at least if they are first downloaded locally (tapping the cloud button first).
Thanks.
Just a couple of things for anyone else to know:
You can’t click the cloud button to download them first, as it opens AUM as you do it, I had to delete AUM first. AUM needs you to save something first before it has a folder in the ‘on my ipad’ section.
The "on my ipad" section should show AUM even if you haven't saved anything, when you're using the parts of Files app where you can choose a destination (moving a file, for example).

Would it be possible to make the AUM save folder automatically be an iCloud save folder instead? Step Poly Arp does this and I wished all apps could save on there for making these horrible restarts quicker lol
Ok, got it sorted now phew lol
Thanks for all your help @j_liljedahl
That should be possible yes, storing documents on iCloud instead of locally. However, it's not currently high on my list!
@j_liljedahl I only work with local files ( haven‘t even activated the icloud drive) - so please make icloud project storage optional.
Of course it would be optional. I don't use it either, other than a few selected things (like Notes).
I know this is fairly old, but I too would love an iCloud storage option. My old iPad mini 2 doesn't have much space, so I'm constantly transferring AUM stuff from iPad to computer to external drives. And yes, iCloud is very handy in case of device failure!
AUM project and preset files are now visible in the Files app, so they can easily be copied to any cloud server or connected drive, and restored from it. Not sure what iOS version you may have, tho'.
Note that AUM session files are very small, they likely do not use up much space.
Correct, I should have been more descriptive. My process has actually been to go into the Files app, select all the new sessions and recordings, copy to iCloud drive, then once finished uploading, copy to an external drive from my computer. I just got a lightning to usb flash drive, so I will try that out for quicker transfers. But having an option to save directly to iCloud would cut out that extra step of checking what's been transferred and selecting everything individually to copy, and actually remembering to do this regularly. Plus the one joy of iCloud (amongst so many negatives with the service and supporting software) is having stuff available no matter what device you're on.
Btw, my iPad iOS is capped at 12.4.9, and it is sluggish with lots of AUM crashes, but it's what I have at the moment...
My session files range from 4.7 MB up to 83.8 MB, so they do add up. Not sure why the big ones are so big though...
@j_liljedahl : when one uses multiple loopers (like Enso or Gauss), the AUM session file can be large as the audio data is saved as part of the plug-ins' state.
I see! Yes that makes sense that some plugins save audio data in their state. I was assuming they saved the file locally and only put a reference to the file in the session state, but embedding it makes the session data fully independent and portable.
Yeah my AUM folder is currently 9GB
