"FAUX U": AU(Audio Unit) hack

In case you didn't remember, there is a way to do a faux AU for some of your favorite apps!

I don't ever need more than 2 of any app so this works great for me.

iPhone version.

Yep.

iPhone versions of your favorite apps.

Magellean AU?
Sunrizer AU?
Animoog AU?
Unique AU?

Yep.

I just download the iPhone versions on my iPad and yep, fake Audio Unit type functions of multiple instances of my favorite synth apps.

I know many of you know this but for those who don't, I hope it helped you in your music making quest.

peace!

  • Do you mean to say using two different apps (Unique for iPad & Unique for iPhone for example) magically makes them Au?

No , but you can for example run one instance of Animoog for ipad and iphone simultaneously. Or just bounce your midi tracks to audio and you can stack as many layer of your favorite synth as you want.

  • Right. So no hack at all.

On a related note, I just picked up AD 480 Pro reverb on sale. I learned if you have one of the other versions (Basic or Free) then those become Pro too. So now I have the Pro and Free (but also Pro) apps to use at the same time. I considered getting the Basic for a minute but I have a bunch of other reverbs so two instances of AD 480 Pro should suffice.

  • I’d love me a faux AU of Samplr and Turnado. One can only dream...

You could buy another ipad and run two instances that way.

  • In the case of Turnado, just buy Auria and you’ll be able to run as many instances as your iPad can take. Cheers!

How is that possible. I don’t have Auria but I’ve just tried it in Cubasis and it is one instance only. Has Auria some special powers I don’t know of? ;)

Auria has WOW2 and Turnado as effect plugins once you have them on your iPad.

Auria offers integrated Turnado and Wow 2 plugins that can be used if you have bought the IAA apps. As with all native Auria plugins, you can use as many instances as the devices handles. There is a little drawback - if the IAA gets updated, you have to wait for an Auria update that integrates the newer version.

I don't remember mentioning that the coding framework or magic was involved. Not sure where you got that. Anyway.

Let me give a dummy version for those who are confused by what was supposed to be a helpful tip to newcomers who didn't realize the potential of iPhone app portability onto their iPads.

    Here we go.

For those who would like to use more than 1 instance of app that they enjoy. If they have the iPhone version of that app, the option is available for them to use the iPhone version app on the iPad.

Apps such as Animoog Unique Sunrzier and Magellan are examples that I have personally used.

Giving "AU" type functionality in that it is more than 1 instance of an app.

Not sure what the hangup was on that.

    FAUX real.

You thought I meant to "hack" the apps? Seriously.

Sorry to confuse or disappoint you.

Ah ok. I use turnado for live looping so Auria won't do. Thanks for the clarification.

Can users share presets from Turnado? I forget.

No but I've been saving states with audiobus which kinda convoluted but works.

  • Sorry if your title was misleading. Au is more than just multiple instances.

Maybe something like “If an app has both an iPad & iPhone version you can buy them both and use them at the same time on your iPad” which I guess is not as intriguing or interesting.
