This is really terrific stuff Joel!!! Is this release ALSO 100% created in Dhalang MG? Or, are you using some samples created outside of Dhalang too? Also, what system do you mostly use Dhalang MG on for your personal stuff?

Only one-shot acoustic drum samples (from the great Erkan acoustic drum kit sample pack) are something from outside Dhalang, played on two segment samplers, like in most of my works. Acoustic drums can be also physically modelled but I think it's a bit overkill as they play only at very fixed pitches/durations, so high quality samples are enough - and I like to use ready kits from actual prominent drum makers.

Some more electronic upcoming work I have made without drum samples and used only the analog synths to create all drums.

The final mixdown is also slightly mastered with iZotope Ozone, to get all sounds nicely together and to decrease some upper-mid-frequency build ups.

I usually start with either iOS version if I am on the move, or with Mac version if at home, but always finish the mix and edit on Mac version on my 55" screen with good monitor speakers. Some very complex pieces that I have finished on Mac (late 2012 mac mini) won't run anymore on my iPad Air 2 without dropouts; usually works with huge amounts of samples - possibly something to do with iPad memory speed - or I dunno.

Like many here on this great iOS forum, I have 90% of all music apps. But I only own the free Lite version of this app. It seems like a perfect app if you are willing to dive deep into the endless possibilities of which the creator has provided. I think highly of the programmer for updating the free version to coincide with the paid version. My only squib is that I cannot load the tutorial files into the lite version as to gain more knowledge of how this app works and thus allows me to discect the files to better understand the inner workings (please enlighten me if this is the case). Twenty bucks is not too much to ask for an app of this magnitude but I find it a bit too difficult to grasp without a chance to experience the brilliant tutorials before such purchase. Irregardless, thank you for coding such an evulionary iOS app. Those clips are exceptional.

I have thought about adding project load to lite version also. This would be easy for Mac version but for iOS I would have to add another dropbox interface, or strip the full version interface to only few operations.

    You are a wizard!
Your "surf guitars" that you generate in Dhalang sound better than any guitar emulations.
    Genius stuff.

Would be great to see some more preset instruments added :)

Something I've just noticed is importing of audio files seems to not work for me and it was previously, opening in from audioshare isn't working. Refreshing the browser shows up "imported" but this isn't working as a file.
Also clipboard pasting doesn't work either....

I think Files app integration would be an ideal feature for Dhalang :)

You can snatch preset sounds from my .dhl works I will put public soon.
I think that is better way than overwriting user's own presets with new ones.

Umm, I can't reproduce this.. I record stuff in AudioShare, then send it to Dhalang. And the same audio is found inside "imported" folder and loads ok into sampler. What did you do precisely ?
I personally use this desktop application to transfer lots of files in/out from ios apps, dmg included: https://macroplant.com/iexplorer So much faster and easier.

    I'll look into that.

oh wait, sorry I didn't realise "imported" was a folder as it looks like a filename, I can see the file now.
    Cool thanks :)

  • Upgraded on MacBook this am

  • edited December 2017

@Hypertonal (or anyone else who knows) When I have a vector track going, using Pattern Mode for both X (Time) and Y (Space)... and have the probability set low, like around 10-20... does the probability effect those patterns on patterns numbered 1? Or, does it select it's probability from the 5 different patterns available for the X and Y patterns?

  • Can anyone help. I’m having no luck opening .dhl files in dhalang mg. Audio share no open in and from Dropbox the files seems to transfer but then doesn’t appear in ‘send to app local”

  • Another update (3.9 on iOS, 3.6 on Mac)

    • Improvements to Physical synth; Working portamento on CORD mode and a frequency modulator for oscillator/model. (I've been trying to create some cello/violin like sounds and this addition makes it a lot easier. Also good for wind instruments)
    • Those multi selection pop-up objects now stay open on fast tap/click, like in most software.
    • Vector X Pattern has now 9 different possible steps in stead of 8.

    On desktop version:

    • New keyboard commands to TouchPlay view, for fast change of scale, octave, transpose etc..
    • DSP init issues solved; The program should now always start with all DSP working.
  • Update (4.0 on iOS, 3.7 on Mac)

    • Physical synth frequency modulator now has a Sync mode, for working just like the played note-synced FM in analog and additive synths. Physical synth also now plays with static volume just like analog synths - much better for midi keyboard.
    • UI bug fixes.

I've been exploring more advanced acoustic sounds with the physical synth and producing new very acoustic-like artsy music (classical-ish, jazz, klezmer, etc) but damn it's challenging - just the way I like it.
Next version will have ability to load different preset sets, and I will change the default ones for the physical synth.

Also I have been producing new trailer/demo video for upcoming Dhalang Steam release for windows/mac.

    OH YEAAAH! When's the release?
I've been holding to buy anything on my iPad for now, but on PC, i'm all in

One month from now would be earliest possibility. That trailer video has mainly been what's been holding the release. It has been very difficult to make a good hype video for an experimental software like this - to give the idea of what it is in just a couple minutes.
