Is it safe to buy the 10,5" iPad?

So bought a 256gb 10,5" earlier today. And the pen. 1100 SEK ($130) for...a pen. But hey, maybe they needed blood diamonds for some component in that thing, what do I know. I got it as I'm going to use the pad for photo restoration/editing, figured it would allow for a bit more precision then my digits. Haven't gotten the chance to open the iPad and set it up, will do tomorrow.

One thing I really hope have been improved upon are the speakers. I'm perfectly fine making sounds and doodles with the iPad speakers, when I got nothing else around. But they break so easily tho. The Air stayed with me for over a year before one of the speakers became wounded in battle. I'm still torturing the poor thing obviously....anyway, bless you left speaker for kinda, sort of still hanging in there. :-)

  • Oh by the way, I didn't know that the camera lens was sticking out. And I didn't get any hardcase for the backside. I'm kinda with Wozniak (that his name? the co-founder of Apple), we don't need thinner iPads. Having cameras sticking out kinda mess up the whole design philosophy behind it all as well? Oh well I'm sure I'm just overthinking it. That iPad will be flying all over the place in a few weeks anyways!:-)

  • I absolutely love the 10.5, especially with the pencil. I had almost quit writing/songwriting entirely, and now I pick up the iPad a few times a day just to write down ideas or for extensive writing sessions. This has nothing to do with the OP, but just being thankful that I didn’t let something I like to do slip out of my life.

  • I haven’t bought a case for mine yet, still looking crispy had it since launch

Yeah I only have the (stupidly overpriced) Apple Smart Cover. Couldn’t resist. I don’t really travel anywhere with mine though. The guy at the store spent 20 minutes trying to convince me to buy some heavy-ass cases...just let me check out dude. I don’t need any more wrist fatigue.

  • @oat_phipps I'm kind of in that situation right now. Due to a hearing damage to one of my ears, that happened back in February, I've been back and forth on what to do with my noise making. I have a few synths/samplers/drum-machines around, mostly used for sound design, which is kinda hard nowadays when I can't hear what I need to hear. Lately I've been reminding myself that a simple app like Figure can occupy me for way too long sometimes. And in the weirdest of places (this does not happen with a real synth!). Would I like to keep my stuff? Sure, but I can't justify it when it's collecting dust. An iPad stuffed with dope audio apps will provide all I really need. An iPad and a Digitakt I mean, lol. :-).

I briefly looked for a hard case similar to the one below earlier today, they don't seem to grow on trees for the 10,5". At least not in my immediate vicinity (all of sweden).

  • I picked this up recently and while it's expensive I like it a lot. Very study, great coverage and good viewing angles. Only thing I don't like is the way it opens because the side that touches the screen ends up being used as the base so you need to make sure the surface you put it on is clean and you check it before closing. Again, it's very sturdy/stable which is great for hitting pads/typing on lap etc.

  • I purchased a 10.5 256gb iPad Pro at the end of last month. It’s been rock solid and WAYYY better as an instrument and a performing surface than my phone. Color me super happy and satisfied that I blew my music savings on it.

That looks like something that might be good to have when traveling, built in stand and everything, the front cover is a minus though.

I'm after a thin silicon or hard case just to keep the backside scratch free (and the camera). I did find a few thicker hard cases for traveling etc, plus a a lot of cases with front covers, but only 1 transparent silicon case (like the above/below pic, and similar to Apples own silicon cases). I did order that one, but would've preferred a hard case like the one I got for the Air, basically the below but transparent. I'll see how the no-brand silicon one works out
