  • Interesting! :-)

  • Anyone tried this ?

  • Here's some stuff: I tried it, and it basically worked like this.

  • edited October 2013

Looks like they beat Cubasis out of the gate on that. At a fraction of the price as well. The prior version had a few crash complaints, so hopefully they fixed those. Seems like it has animation curves from the screenshots.

  • Interesting...

@NoiseHorse, could you explain me the IAP "MIDI features" and "Pro-audio features" (I'm new in this field).
    Thanks.

  • edited October 2013

IAP MIDI gives you the little MIDI button they used in the video. Has access to a basic MIDI keyboard, a variety of in-house MIDI instrument sounds (128), and the Piano Roll editor you see in the Video. The Pro-Audio gives you a 3D frequency spectrum view that's pretty cool, a 2D sonogram, and nice customizable equalizer settings for each track. N-track has volume and pan automation, and you can also IAP effects like Chorus, Reverb, Compression, Echo, Pitch Shift, Tremolo, and Phasing to use on each track. It seems smooth so far, I've got a 9 track tune going on it and added MIDI with no problem. IPad4.

  • @NoiseHorse, Thank you very much.

  • Hey one more fun thing I just noticed that I think is new, when you double tap on the waveform name a window pops up that lets you change the waveform name, gives a history of the files including bit resolution and size. The fun part is it lets you customize the color of the waveform that you can see in real time as you scroll around different colors. Nothing to do with making a great sound, but I often wish Auria had something besides white waveforms.

  • Hi. The Pro version includes 8 audio effects?
    Spanish store:
    N-Track: 5,99€+1,79€(8 audio effects)+3,59€(MIDI)+5,49€(Pro)=16,86 (if I'm not wrong).
    N-Track Pro: 14,99€

The more I watch your video, the more I wish this app.

  • Can some other people weigh in on this one? I'm very interested in buying it, but trying to justify... Seems like I would need to purchase pretty much all of the IAPs to really have it up and running.

  • @dj8, Even that, I have MultitrackDAW and if you want more tracks, you have to pay similar money, so I think I would be a good alternative.
An it looks pretty good, and no to, much complicated, that's I'm looking for.

  • Thanks for the feedback, @fjcblanco. Anyone else have a chance to work w the app and have any feedback? Right now I use BM2 almost always, and occasionally GarageBand.

  • Something is wrong in my keyboard...

  • @dj8, I'm in the same crossroad.

  • The Dev continues to update this app, which is half the battle. He recently added the midi, and IAA. The internal sounds are are not stellar but with virtual midi, AB, and IAA, they don't have to be. It's probably the lowest priced daw with that many features. I think you can count on a responsive Dev that will only make it better.

  • Thanks, @mgmg4871. Have you had any problems w crashing/instability w the app? A lot of negative reviews on App Store.

Would like to give it a try, but trying to be more discerning re. My app purchases :-)

  • When it first released there were major crashes, but the Dev didn't abandon it. With updates he eliminated the crashes. I haven't had time to run through the IAA feature yet.

One other proven choice may be Looptical. Its full of features and the price is right. It's AB and IAA supported also.

  • Thanks, re. Looptical. I haven't checked that out. I'm interested in the interface for N-Log. Seems very direct (unlike BM2). I also like that the midi editor plays notes when you drag/select them. I wish BM2 had that option.

I don't think I'll use it all the time, but if stable, would be a nice change of pace sometimes... Still I on the fence...

  • NLog is not a DAW. You would still need a DAW to record into to create tracks. If you're looking for something standalone check out Nano Studio.

  • Really? Description says it records audio tracks. And I've stopped using NanoStudio because it doesn't have dedicated audio tracks...

I like BM2 a lot, but the tedious interface wears me out...

  • Another ?: can N-Studio record audio and midi from synth app at same time, like BM2? All the videos show the user adding MIDI notes after recording the synth audio, not at the same time.

I guess it's possible to route a midi part out to a synth and record the audio back in via IAA or Audiobus. Can anyone confirm this?

Usually I don't linger over making a purchase this much, but to make all the IAPs for this, it adds up to about $20, which hits my serious app purchase threshold.

  • Here's some new info. N-Track Studio Pro is the new version just released a few minutes ago for $16.99 US. It has everything included so no IAPs.

  • Thanks, @mgmg4871. Only $1 discount for buying pro vs. basic + add ons. Still undecided, there's just not a lot of user experience info out there on the IOS release for this app. I've looked all over the web and YouTube. I'll write developer w remaining ?s. (Main one is whether or not it supports more than 4/4 time?)

  • N-track.com has a support page where you can type in your questions for whichever device you're using N-track on. (Works on IOS, Mac, Windows, & Android). I've used it in the past and gotten great answers very quickly, usually from the developer himself. The only reason I'm familiar with it is because I downloaded the Windows version back in 1996 and stuck with it as it developed over the years. I'm not sure about other time signatures and lots of MIDI details, I'm more of an audio only type. I rank N-track on IOS better than Multitrack DAW (because of automation and other features), but not as awesome as Auria or Cubasis, those are probably everybody's favorite DAWs. I'd like to hear DAW rankings from @mgmg4871 and the rest of the gang that own and use several....

    post removed.... reposted below...

  • Sorry comment above didn't post correctly... I had a longer post response, probably better in short form...

Ok, thanks @NoiseHorse. Sent N-track an email, will try the support page in the future. I have Multitrack DAW (don't like the interface or built in midi interface), Auria has been too much for my iPad 2 (meaning I don't want to freeze / unfreeze, close apps, etc. to run app smoothly, plus no MIDI), haven't tried Cubasis, mostly because it is IMHO overpriced and doesn't seem to have a sampler. Hopefully Auria will add MIDI input and sequencer soon and be a good solution (when I get a new iPad that can handle it.)

Since I picked up the iConnect 2+, using that plus Logic has been the best set up for me. I find that I'm more focused and efficient. Less fiddling w/ getting apps to play nice and more getting stuff recorded into Logic. Best of both worlds sort of thing...

I'm a big supporter of music apps (I have about 100). I'm hoping they will continue to mature to the point where they can play together more easily. I'm spending to much time haggling w/ interfaces and trying to figure out why app A isn't working w/ app B. Or, why all my memory is disappearing and how to clear up BM2's sample files w/out messing up my tracks, or trying to remember which app can record audio and midi and which view has to be visible in order for it to work. By the time I finish all that, I'm ready to put the music away and get on to something else.

That being said, I'm in it for the long haul. I hope app developers will continue to work openly together to strengthen operability between apps. Some global design standards/protocols would be a welcome and awesome improvement.

@NoiseHorse As far as usability, my list looks like this:

    Cubasis

Beatmaker 2 (subject to change) becoming very comfortable with it lately.

    Meteor

    Auria

  • This app sadly crashed several times today on my iphone. I was very excited to start making use of the frequency analyzer due to Context helping me find a solution to layering drum samples (see my drum thread) and could've made good use of analyzing each sample and where they were in the frequency spectrum. So I had chordpolypro open with intua bm2, opened up audiobus and then when i tried to start up N-track, it would just crash. i dont know if it's because im on an iphone and intua and chordpolypro are already hogging all the power but sadly it's not working for me.

It's 24 bit so was hoping to lay guitar and bass after i had laid down the rhythm tracks so will see if auria has better results.

  • Sorry to hear that @gjcyrus. Holding out hope for N-track, but appreciate the performance reporting re: crashing. So much crash discussion on the App Store makes me wonder if the app is stable and worth spending the $ at this point.
