the article mentions that the workflow needs getting used to, notably this is not the case with the touch version...

For sure. I almost went with Surface Pro instead of iPad Pro, and would be working in Bitwig. Still not sure I made the right choice...

The name though... don’t say it too many times.

    It’s such a weird name

One way to go: used or refurbished SP3, i7, 256Gb, well under 1k (havent looked lately but I’d seen em for $600-$700)

That sounds reasonable. Then for me $300 for Bitwig. I do have Ableton Live, but it doesn’t look as touch friendly yet. Anything new in Live10 for touchscreen?

  • @audiorangutan : Me too! But we can always get Kangaroo Pro for $200usd and turn our iPad pros into pc’s w Windows 10.. Right when I decided on the pro instead of the surface, Auria Pro came out and I was swayed by that.
I thought I perhaps made a mistake too so I bought a new Korg Kross 2 which pretty much does everything I need it to, and use my iPad for additional goodies . Plus had I gotten Bitwig I wouldn’t be considering getting g the Pyramid Squarp Which is a good a reason as any not to go laptop. I’m not sore we made the wrong decision. And last year’s surface pro is fraught w problems .
    Plus we have Garageband!

  • I wonder if they had to do a last minute re write to take sonar out of the article. It was last months free cover giveaway.

  • I wonder if bitwig touch will work with the new Oculus dash. Running ableton in a virtual 30 foot high monitor is marvelous. Just wish it supported multi touch so I could use both my hands...

  • I have an awesome dell touch screen laptop and Appleton works really well with the touch screen. Using a button creator I have a floating row of buttons for common tasks, copy paste undo etc. It works great.
But been looking at bitwig for a while now
Perhaps it will be my Xmas present to myself !!
    Happy xmas

  • You only need 1 finger to operate Bitwig

  • @chris_foster Yeah that looks way fun! I like the sounds and vibe too. Def see Bitwig on a touch screen in my future.

  • @Telstar5 Thanks, you turned me on to the idea of using iPad as second touchscreen display for my MacBook. The app Duet Display ($14.99) even shows a dude running Ableton Live, but I’m past tapped out for apps so have to hold off. Couple free options I found didn’t work for me. I’m not sure the Kangaroo Pro would run Ableton?

@Nicebutfun Cool, now I remember hearing somewhere else too that making some on screen buttons for Ableton on touchscreen is the key for quicker workflow. Does it still only register one touch at a time?

  • Splashstop 2 is the best I found as vnc and also someday Lemur will implement html5 canvas and add “screening” alongside regular remote surface (also Mira74 if you are max7 user...) but I ditched all due reliability.
Touchable or similar will be better option for Ableton probably.
