Guitar effects
Which ones do you gravitate towards? Which are rarely discussed which you feel are unique in any way outside the usual suspects of guitar specific amp/cab/effects emulators?
Comments
Alllllllllllllllllll of them...I use so many at once with an eBow that you can't even tell what's in there anymore!
I call my playing style "texture guitar."
The unique and non-conventional FX I gravitate toward are the ones that don't just mangle my sound, but wring it's scrawny neck and twist it's head off. Stuff you don't normally use with guitars, like Frekvens, Grind, Eos, and the over the top usage of Holderness Media FX like Caramel, Swoopster, and Johnny.
Sometimes when all I can seem to come up with are mundane riffs, stuffing them in the blender and then frying up the batter can open up worlds of possibility.
I use Sound Designer way more than I ever thought I would because it adds that double-track effect that is so common and important in much of rock.
Thanks for the feedback guys. There were several apps mentioned which I don't own, but I do have all the Holderness apps. I've recorded me playing different styles across different pickups dry into AudioShare, so now its just a matter of trying a few million effects combinations to see what craziness is to be had.
If I'm feeling funky and creative I'll chuck anything through Audulus. Not "cheap" (and rightly so) but the user library is worth the price of admission IMO. A fair learning curve tho ...
A slight step down in weirdness is the likes of Moebius Lab which I have a liking for.
If I'm feeling less than funky (a.k.a. lazy) then ToneStack has the goods for guitar effects ... it's a usual suspect but one for a reason ...
Any fabfilter. Next topic
I've been meaning to try it through Audulus but never seem to get to it. I do like Moebius and FabFilter and have found several good tones through those.
Awesome options so far...
Let's add Sunvox to it. And maybe ZMors Modular (maybe because I haven't tried it in the FX Slot... YET)
Glitch1 can give you exotic seasoning to your riffs
My response assumed you still wanted your guitar to sound like a guitar, but that may not be the case. If I were looking to mangle my sound, I’d probably reach for Turnado for starters. Although I don’t own it, Flux:FX would be something in a similar vein.
@kgmessier - looking for both actually....straight guitar type effects and off the beaten path. Flux certainly fits the bill, but I was just interested to see what other options are out there that I hadn't considered. Turnado would be fun to try!
Simple answer to any iOS effects inquiry. They’re an easy shortcut to the solution you’re looking for if you don’t consider them cost-prohibitive and have 5-10 minutes to learn how the mod system works. Which is just dragging to target.
Well, since you used the word lazy in your post, I’ll just ask you so I don’t have to dig up my Audulus forum user info. Is it possible to download the full collection and import it directly into Audulus via iPad?
I have it uploaded into my Dropbox unzipped and open the individual patches directly from there.
A rabbit hole of fun to be sure wired into AB using the IAA effect capability, not just for guitar, obviously.
