OT: The Good Music Playlist
I thought everyone might appreciate some fun tunes. This is a giant playlist (200+ and growing) I've been putting together for the past 4 months and playing on the PA at work (the coffee shop at my university) and is an ongoing project. Its just a big collection of awesome songs from the 50's to now, mostly upbeat. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND just hitting the shuffle button like I do, because there isn't supposed to be an order. There's a lot of forgotten gems, plenty of classics and some modern tracks for flavor. I use it and add to it almost every day, so it's kinda just my personal radio station. I'm open to suggestions for good songs. Alright, back to studying for finals!

Nice list. As a fellow music nerd I have done something similar, except that I have mine categorised by decade. There's a fair amount of overlap with yours, but also some differences down to taste - I wouldn't tolerate Phil Collins personally
Songs on your list that I particularly approve of: Modern English "I Melt With You", Stardust "Music Sounds Better With You", The Temptations "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", Curtis Mayfield "Pusherman", Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps", and Blondie, because of course
A few songs I might suggest you add, just because they're awesome:
Chairlift: Bruises
The Breeders: Canonball
Candi Staton: Young Hearts, Run Free
Dee-Lite: Groove Is In The Heart
Martha And The Muffins: Echo Beach
Bobby Bland: Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City
Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra: Summer Wine
10CC: I'm Not In Love
And a handful more in the spoiler, don't want to overwhelm you
Woodpigeon: For Paolo
Fatboy Slim/Cornershop: Brimful Of Asha
Fleet Foxes: Mykonos
Iggy Pop: The Passenger
The Kinks: Lola
The Undertones: Teenage Kicks
Thunderclap Newman: Something In The Air
Otis Redding: Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay
Dean Martin: King Of The Road
Dusty Springfield: Son Of A Preacher Man
I could go on and on, might see if there's an easy way to share my Spotify playlists.

@richardyot Haha Phil Collins is good but I also get why not everyone likes him. Wow awesome thorough response. I’ll digg through these lists and add a bunch of them to the station soon thank you so much
No worries - your list is really good, it's eclectic and not snobby. I think great songs are a thing to be celebrated, even if we can't all agree on every single inclusion.
And here's a few of my top picks/suggestions in video form:
But...but...but...he played on Before and After Science!
Yep you’ve got my vibe down all of these work just added them thank you
@richardyot
Going through and adding stuff from your 60s list and I found this amazing one recommended by youtube
Well in that case...
@richardyot
never heard this one before and it’s fantastic!
It's a really great song.
I'm digging through your playlist in case there's some gems there I haven't heard. I really like the fact that it spans many genres, and that you like songs in so many different styles.
Amazing recommendation I love it
@richardyot your recommendations led down so many rabbit holes of great music I’ve expanded the playlist (now over 450) so much thank you for all this!
Thanks for taking the time to check it all out - and I'm glad it's been so useful. Your playlist is obviously a labour of love for you, and mine were the same - the culmination of a lifetime of listening to music.
What would you estimate to be the boundaries of this sort of playlist? For example, what wouldn’t get in?
I bought their album when it came out. I love the track World of Water.
They were very good, I thought at the time. I think (and I think a lot of other people think) they were underrated and unfairly unrepresented in the charts – they never charted highly at all.
Oh, there’s this too
(I’ve been in a bit of a “early Tubeway Army” mood all week.
Oh go on, one more
I saw him on that tour.
Brings back memories of when I bought my MS20, and played in an electronic band. I was buying every synth album I could find, in the Basildon record shops for inspiration and ideas.
Thanks for the interest. Nothing is off limits, just looking for a broad spectrum of good music. Rockabilly, Metal, Nu-wave, pop, classic rock, psychedelic, punk, bossa nova, ska, ... whatever, just quality music really. For an example of what isn't good, I think a lot of modern hiphop and edm aren't very well made (lack of actual musicianship mostly) and too similar to each other, but that doesn't mean there aren't exceptions! I'd like to hit every decade and genre eventually. Currently sitting at 525 songs and definitely not slowing down.
This has been my favorite recommend so damn good I've been listening to it alot
Oh man Gary Numan is super awesome such an icon I love his style, adding all these
I wanted to add ‘Toytown’ by Jon Hart, but as two other people of the same name are now all over YouTube, I can’t find it. Why would you want to hear this? Because it is as close to Bowie as Ral Donner was to Elvis. Toytown sounds like a lost, early Bowie classic, and is well worth tracking down.
