OT - Sonokinetic's Kontakt Library OSTINATO BRASS Was Free, But Now OSTINATO STRINGS is 60% Off

edited December 2017 in Other

Some of you may remember that last December Sonokinetic gave away copies of its "Ostinato Strings," which now sells for 100 euros. So this morning it is the Brass version.

https://www.sonokinetic.net/products/instruments/ostinato-brass?ref=vic2&utm_content=buffer1e72a&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

I see that the link isn't working now (for obvious reasons) but keep trying, as it's worth it.

This works in the free Kontakt Player and if you have an NI keyboard, it has NKS. It's about an 11 GB, but you'll need 22 GB to install it. You can delete the rar files afterwards.

If it's like the Strings, you'll be able to hold down a chord and it will play impressive ostinato patterns. You will be triggering very high quality recordings.

But you have to move fast, if you want one.

To get it, you have to download and install the Sonokinetic Manager. Once you do that, it will ask you where you want to install it and it will download the rar files and unpack them too. If you want you can tell it to delete the rar files.

If you don't have a copy of the free Kontakt player, you can get it here. You need this to use this.

  • Been trying for a couple of hours. Was just about to give up when I got through.
Great freebie by the looks and sounds of it. Thanks @Reid

  • Glad you got one @DeVlaeminck

There's currently 1415 copies left. I don't know how many they started with. They seem to be going every few seconds. Once they're out they'll probably do what they did last year--put it on sale for 50% off.

I found a forum post that said that Sonokinetic is going to do a whole series. So I wouldn't be surprised if next Christmas they give away Ostinato Woodwinds. And they are going to do some solo instruments too.

Very cool way to build up an Ostinatorchestra.

  • Downloading now, thanks!

This is BRASS, not strings, so you probably won’t to correct that in the title of your post. I WISH it were strings. When I saw this headline, I thought maybe they were also giving away the string library. But it’s only brass as far as I know.

  • The Ostinato Strings was last year. Building up slowly ...

  • Nice one @reid, grabbed the strings one last year too from one of your posts, so double thanks with sugar on top.

  • @Lady_App_titude Thank you! I was rushing getting this up, as I didn't want people to miss out. So many did on the strings last year. I changed the headline.

  • Dang. Sorry I missed out on the stings last year. I have a lot less use for brass than strings. But, FREE is FREE...

  • Was quite bummed when I missed out on the Strings version, but I'm looking forward to using this Brass one. I have loads of strings, but brass has been something I've not used much before, as it's tough to replicate. I think I'll get some good mileage out of this. It's time for the yearly Christmas Movie project with the boy over the break, and I think this year's score will be dark and foreboding.

Thanks for the early head's up, @Reid, as that was a slog, but I finally got through.

  • Thanks for the heads up! No issues getting through here. Just took maybe a minute on the outside to register and checkout.

  • It could be very nice to set this up in a multi, with the strings and the brass doing different Ostinati (???) You could get some nice textures. Looking forward to experimenting.

They still have 10 days left in their "12 days of Christmas" sale. They always have some stuff cheap and last year they gave away their EMP electric piano too, which I quite like.

I've got my alarm set for 11 am EST, as that's when they start each day. I'll post when I hear about free stuff.

There is also a really fun free library from a new company called "Redroom Audio called "Snaps, Claps, Slaps, Stomps & Shouts," a 24-piece group performing a variety of vocal and body effects. bit.ly/2BBJxNA
I think this requires the full Kontakt though. But I can't say for sure because the link doesn't work! That's what happens when you give stuff away free I guess.

  • FYI, FWIW ... Download and install went pretty fast for me.

How long was the download. Mine seems really slow.

  • Thanks, downloading now

Did you have any trouble loading it into Kontakt. when i entered the serial number into Native instruments manager it ask for a file path, when i select it it just crashes. did you have any similar issues? what does deleting the rar files do?

  • @eross I didn't think you needed to go through Native Access to install it, since it isn't an NI-made product. I just use the "Files" tab in Kontakt5 to find the instrument in my file system and open it. Mac, though.

  • thx, Reid, grabbed .. and yeah, took quite a long time to get thru

  • Well the big giveaway is over. They've given out all the copies they planned to.
I'm glad that a lot of you were able to get a copy.

Like last year with Ostinato Strings, they're now selling it for half price until tomorrow.

39,90 euros. Normal price will be 79, 90 euros.

Didn’t time it, but the whole thing—purchase, download, authorize, install—was under an hour. Probably under 45 min.

  • @eross Looks like I was thinking about the EMP earlier, with which you run through the Files tab in Kontakt. Ostinato has to be added as a library, so you do have to use Native Access. Anyway, I didn't have any luck using the Sonokinetics manager to download and install. Corrupted. So I went into its Settings and turned on manual download. It was a bit of a pain moving all the expanded rar files over to their necessary folders, but now it works, and the file path thing was fine, too. Afterward, you can just can the .rars to save file space.

  • @Reid Thanks for the heads up. I grabbed a copy but it is my first interaction with the Kontakt player and I feel like I've just been thrown back a decade... We moan about the iOS AppStore but I have forgotten how difficult it can be to install and run some Windows software... And I'm a software guy so I should find my way around :)

@aaronpc It sounds like you hit the same bump.

Appreciate it though and once I do crack the nut I'm sure there are some sweet sounds to play with.

It shouldn't crash after you select the folder. The only thing I can think of is that there is something wrong with the files in the folder. Now that the madness of yesterday is over, you might want to try a second download. For me it worked fine, and that was the case for others on this forum and others I go to. Have you used Native Access before and did it work on other libraries?

Deleting the rar files just clears out 11 GB from your computer. I save them on a separate hard drive as a backup, but theoretically we don't need to do that because they will be kept in our accounts on Sonokinetic's server, and we can download later as needed. But if you back up your computer, you don't need the rar files. The unpacked rare files are fine.

For people who own full Kontakt, it won't show there until you install ver 5.7.1

yeah i have used native aces before for many libraries and it has worked great.
ohh, maybe i need to update kontakt to 5.7.1. i’ll try that. thanks

  • I’m still trying to download this. Just doesn’t want to do it. Keeps getting stuck after hours of downloading. 4.65 % now after 10 min

Their weird downloader seems to have issues. I couldn't get it to work under Windows at all, and now on Mac it started downloading about 500MB then stopped for whatever reason, no more progress after 24 hours.
I'll try again in a few days, by then they might have fixed their download manager.

  • in this Sonokinetic Manager tool is an option to "redirect (the) download button to manual download page" which leads you to the download page within your account

    worked good for me

  • Sad, had no chance to grab it. Maybe good.....another tool which would take time away for my already not in depth explored other tools.

I’ve had it downloading this morning for around 3 hours now and I’m at 78% this is the farthest it’s made it so far. Fingers crossed
