Is Gadget’s Chicago the best sounding 303 style acid synth?

I’m running midi from Bassline in Rozeta to sequence Chicago and really liking what i hear. Just wondering if there’s something out there that you think sounds better.

  • I think that Chicago is one of the worst sounding 303's on iOS. Many do like it though.
Troublemaker is far better for that sound I would say. There is a Bassline inside Caustic which is also pretty good. Rebirth was good as well- but is no longer available I think.

  • Well I'm not a big 303 guy, but I do like the squelch of Chicago, would be a go to if I went that route. I was a bit underwhelmed by troublemaker but perhaps it is more authentic

  • +1 for Troublemaker if you're looking for the 303 sound. I actually really like Chicago for some purposes but rarely use it for 303 bass.

+1 I like Chicago, but don't even think of it when going for 303 sounds. Troublemaker all the way ... or Transistor Bass in FL Studio Mobile. There's also BassLine but I don't care for that app much.

[Edit: BassLine the TB303 bass-type emulator, not the Rozeta plugin!]

Troublemaker is the closest active app and maybe TB in FLSM. None of the others mentioned quite get it. Rebirth and Technobox were best. IMHO

  • The bass component in Egoist can be made to sound more like a 303 than anything else I’ve heard on iOS, though it may be a bit extreme and certainly has its limitations. Troublemaker sounds great, is AUv3, priced a lot lower and is a lot of fun.

  • In my opinion what a 303 clone sounds like in isolation is irrelevant only matters how it sound in the mix with the rest of the instruments in the track. Just try out various clones that you currently own and let your ears decide.

  • I love troublemaker but I always wished Chicago was a separate instrument app. Probably I’m doing something wrong but I cannot get out of TMaker the kind of sounds I get with Chicago with such ease.

  • Chicago is somewhat close to the sound that acid techno ( not house) embodies

Troublemaker seems the best dedicated acid synth available but..

You can get great acid sounds by tweaking some recent iOS synths like:

    Zeon
    Poison
    Kauldron

If you know what to twist and how :)

It’s not dependant on dedicated 303 emulations at all

  • Troublemaker for the win!!!

Here’s the 303 BassLine app mentioned above. I think you can get some goods sounds out of it. : BassLine - Analog Modeling Synthesizer by Markus Waldboth https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bassline-analog-modeling-synthesizer/id298147000?mt=8

  • There’s the T-03 synth in Syntronik as well.

  • If not the best sounding certainly one of the best looking...

  • Nice! @5pinlink is a wizard. He’s doing an awesome job over on the BM3 forum.

  • How is he using it on a PC!! I would love to use it on computer!!!!

  • Hmmm. Went to Guitar Center and tried out the TB-03 for a while on headphones. Then came home and tried Gadget (and Troublemaker) again. I think I'm going to be buying a TB-03. Really liked the sound of it and the patterns. None of the iOS apps compare in my very humble opinion.

That’s because the TB-03 isn’t completely faithful to the TB-303, tbh. The parameters have much wider ranges than the original instrument (leading to more harsh, extreme sounds than the 303 was originally capable of, esp. resonance and env. mod.) and its accent implementation is inaccurate. You should be comparing to a 303, if that’s what you were going for.

That said, the TB-03 is one of my favorite hardware boxes and it’s a lot of fun. :)

  • rebirth....。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。

  • Don't buy a TB-03 until you have tried a TB-3. The TB-3s are cheaper, easier to programme, have more features (including real time record) and sound better.
The overdrive/ distortion on the TB-03 is awful- it vanishes as you turn it up.

  • On iOS Troublemaker for the win.

  • Mixing the lines.

Troublemaker. Caustic. Kauldron. And a bit DM1 or Patterning. Sometimes even Rhythm means fun. And some good FX. AAAAAACIIIIIEEEEEEED!!

    Insane fun. Infamous fun.
