OT: Mesmerizing Guitar & Drum Improvisation

I found this improvisational guitar & drum composition by Thurston Moore & Charles Hayward, mightily mesmerizing.

Might be tough to do this on an iPad. ;)

  • Man, this makes me miss being in a band and doing stuff like this late night in the studio 5-6 days a week. Watched the whole vid, didn’t care for the sounds that came out of it, but that’s totally ok; the fun and exploration was there, and that feeling made me nostalgic for my olden days.

I’m only partially diggin’ the sound. Not enough to buy the album, but I’m mostly fascinated with how the entire instrument is being manipulated and played in such organic, tactile ways. I don’t play, so maybe I’m more easily impressed.

I was trying to think of whether this level of tactile interaction could even be emulated in an app. Not that anyone should, but curious if it’d even be possible.

    Not a chance; a screen won’t bend.

  • 9:45-11:00 is fucking gold. They're totally tied into each other as evidenced by the tempo change at 10:15.

Just saw Mr. Moore do an acoustic set earlier this year (full band, just all acoustic). Fantastic show.

    This.
I also really fucked up my first iPad by trying to jam a screwdriver under the screen. Don't do it!

I’ve only listened to this one track so far, but as soon as I get home I think I’ll see if I can preview the rest of the album. On second listen, this might be an album I need to pick up if the rest is this good.

The reviews aren’t stellar, but I haven’t entirely agreed with the latest crop of music critics lately anyway.
