Apple app of the day
They had Garageband and now Moog
Comments
It seems Apple worked with Moog to showcase the new AU features built into Garageband. So it makes sense for them to promote Model 15. That's why they don't mention Audio Units, but call it "Garageband integration" - as if no third party hosts exist.
...or they're just uber-happy that they made AU work properly in their own app
I do wonder how many Garageband users actually use other DAWs at all.
Most of the ones who do might be active members on this forum already.
You seem surprised
Nah...
Maybe when other apps/hosts support AU full screen and MIDI out they’ll have the opportunity to be similarly featured
If/when Apple adds full AUv3 support (audio, effects & midi) with automation & editing it will most likely put some very heavy pressure on the other hosts
But first they should sort out the AUv3 preset issues and give the AUv3's a 'central place' to store the presets so that the user-presets would not be 'locked' into the host in which they were created...
I keep forgetting that GB can act as a host. I tend to use it in its own self-contained little universe, like Apple's version of Gadget. Then again, without stem export that's probably the right thing to do, use GB for its excellent built-in instruments and add the extra stuff elsewhere.
Maybe iOS 12? That’s really the only thing left to resolve with AU infrastructure. Other than the de-allocation bug.
Memory issues should be fixed sooner, don't know what iOS11.2.5 will bring...
