Loopy HD midi sync with Funk Drummer broken after update?

Hi all -- something has gone wrong with latest updates to Loopy HD, AB 2, Funk Drummer or all of the above that has disrupted my favorite way to create.

Used to be, starting with a blank page in Loopy, I could record a measure as a first loop, just playing whatever came into my head at whatever tempo, and immediately when I triggered the end of the loop capture, Loopy would set the tempo according to the the measure I just played, and simultaneously launch Funk Drummer, which would groove instantly and stably with that first loop.

In Loopy, I had Link disabled, and Midi Sync and IAA Sync on.

Now (after updating a couple of days ago) when I do this, Funk Drummer (FD) starts off close, but off the tempo by ~2 bpm, and then FD's tempo dithers around +/- 3 bpm -- I can watch the FD tempo indication in the app as well as hear that there is no groove at all.

Turning on Link fixes the sync problem, but makes it impossible for Loopy to set the tempo and kick off transport with that first measure capture.

Any ideas?

  • I found a work around:
    1. Start with only Loopy HD in the Link session.
    2. Reset Loopy and clear tempo.
    3. Record first loop
    4. Enable Link in Funk Drummer
    5. Launch Funk Drummer transport

It sucks though because too many clicks and waiting for FD to hop into the Link session takes a few measures.

Is there a way to automate steps 4&5 somehow?

Is there a setting in Loopy that allows one to capture a first loop independent of Link tempo and grid, and then use that loop to reset the Link tempo and grid?
