  • The Akai MPD226 looks nice but I've never messed around with it...

  • I have the mpd232 works great plus you get more faders. It’s bigger so if you’re looking at size the mpd226.

  • The MPD226 is 1999:- (235USD) here in Sweden including sales tax so it should be around $199 in the US.

  • I bought mine used on eBay for $150 but the mpd232 are $299 usd

  • At that point, may as well get an MPC Studio black. $399

You'll get the full MPC 2.0 software, w/ a metric ton of instruments and plug-ins.

    Is it iso compliant?

Do you have a link by any chance?

    You seem knowledgable

    Is the software good then??

Can I do a full song recorded on it?

Thanks so many choices trusting this place is so helpful

  • The mpc 2.0 software is great. I have the mpc touch and enjoying it. Yes you can do full recorded songs on it. If the impc to mpc 2.0 export is solid I'll be in heaven.
The mpc studio, ren, live and x are not class compliant.

  • I should have NOT touched the Machine MK3 at the music store on my last visit...
Considering Korg has 'Machinified' all the Gadgets with the latest update it's very tempting!
(But then again I would need a faster computer since my MacBook Air is not super fast).

  • The AKAI help chat said no MPC are iOS compliant ?

    WTF?

So, there is the Element? Is that any good?

WHAT ARE OPTIONS FOR A MPC STYLE PAD MIDI CONTROLLERS?

    iRig

    What else?

I like the pads on the Korg padkontrol much better than the akai stuff. I believe they use a different sensor, so they are much more sensitive, and equally sensitive at the edges, unlike the MPD's, which you have to hit pretty much dead center, and hard. I had both, and kept the korg. A couple midi minded friends that tried both, when I had them, both ended up getting the korg as well.

That's just BS, even if they require external power they are 'class compliant' midi-devices.
AKAI has no deeper knowledge about iOS, they left that to Retronyms me thinks...

I think you’re confusing MPC “controllers” with MPD, which to my knowledge are class compliant.
In fact, the topic should say “MPC style pad controller” instead of MPC controller, as MPC controllers are more like hardware/software hybrids that aren’t meant to really control other software.

What you seem to be asking for is not MPC :D Mpc and mpd are different products

  • That’s what I said. The MPC’s are not class compliant and do not work with iOS.
All MPDs and MPKs however are and work with IOS. If you don’t need the newer version (MPD226, MPD232, MPD218) and don’t care about led back lighting check the older mpd versions. MPD26, MPD32, MPD18. Just do a search for Akai MPD and see which one you’ll like. The older version pads are not the best. The newer ones on the other hand are way better. Even better than the old korg pad kontrol

  • I have the MPD226 which I use with Beatmaker 3, and it really speeds up using that app once you map everything to your liking. However, I do get horrible double triggering on the pads which initially made me think of returning it, but I stumbled across a thread on here, I think, that suggested using Midiflow to ignore pad hits below a certain velocity, and that works well. It's not ideal, but the functionality of the controller, and the very nice feel of the pads, make me willing to deal with it.

Lots of info about the pads issue out there, so not just me, and Akai don't seem to be bothered enough to fix it.

Weird I’ve never had a double trigger with my mpd232 and I also use it with Beatmaker 3 and iMPC pro

Are you sure you cant just lower the sensitivity of the pads, and not have to use some apps for it? I used to have mpd32 and im 90% sure you could easily change the sensitivity of the pads
