EPIC! Had the honor of meeting Tim from DiscChord this week. Super nice guy in real life!

We made this fun video talking about the DX7 and app development:

I'd rate Tim 5-out-of-5 stars.

Hope he interviews more app developers!

  • What I particularly like about Tim, is that he calls a spade a spade, and can be relied upon for an honest view.

  • He is a very witty man.

Was actually a bit nervous going in. He has torn some apps apart. He's truly cordial and professional in real life.

You were always going to be okay with Tim, because the app is exactly what it claims to be.

  • Ha! That was the best!

But I think you might have to change your name to digital_matt now! :*

    Thank you for watching.

    And, Haha. Well played!

I am probably a little too enthusiastic about the DX7. Though, 70s/80s analog synths will always be my true love! \m/

Good t-shirt, I’ve got that one.

  • This is awesome!

  • Matt - this app rules. I really appreciate the Beta copy and I've been having a blast with it. Thank you again for the awesome Christmas present - I can't wait for Synth One!!!!!!

  • @gmslayton, @ryanjanik, @dvlmusic

    THANKS!

Had no idea how much care and love Tim puts into all his YouTube videos. He really takes his craft seriously.

  • Be nice to developers indeed, especially the ones wearing Motörhead t-shirts. ;)

And, yes, I felt compelled to put the umlaut in.

I may have done some software development ...

Was noodling with FM Player yesterday, just that layered up with a digital piano, great stuff.

He bought me a pint once. Lovely geezer, and the best bass player ever.

If Lemmy bought you a pint, that's good enough for me. You seem like an awesome bloke!

    Cool! Anything we can download?

That's great thinking adding some tines to some piano sounds. Bet it sounds like a nice stack!

Me? God no, I’m an old nutter, an awful man, but thank you.

Lemmy was of an era, slightly before mine, but most of my old mates are very Lemmy like - living on the edge but erudite, and witty. We were all massively into Hawkwind, Gong, Motörhead....all that stuff, desperately ignoring current music fads. We bumped into him in the pub before a Hawkwind gig. We had a quick chat and he got a round in ‘for the boys’ before going off to beat 7 types of shit out of the fruit machine in the corner. Saw him here and there over the years as with the other ‘Hawks’.

After the pub he came on stage for Sonic Attack, and very nearly brought down the Hammersmith Odeon ceiling with his demented screams.

If there are such things as gods, then he is undoubtedly one right now.

  • Nobody wears a mole quite like Lemmy Kilmister

Alas my code is currently in the financial sector and in my spare time I avoid software development and low level stuff generally (Audulus patching is about my limit).

I used to code for fun (my final year project at school some 28 years ago was a music sequencer actually) but making it a career has knocked that out of me! Paid the bills and financed hobbies though so no complaints.

Yeh, layering FM Player with something distinctly non-FM is a good combo. Really like the super easy to add (and top quality) effects too, it simplifies things and reduces the tendency to fiddle with the details.

    Just play and enjoy ...

  • Tim actually helped me with my dissertation by being a primary source of information. Even accounted for the fact I'm in the UK. Wonderful guy, and an amazing blog as well!

Are those live outside cameras on the screen against the wall?

  • That was a really good time. Agree that it would fun to watch Tim do more of these! Maybe we need to kickstarter him a trip to the Bay Area or something. Or how about they all take place on @Michael's post-Fallon yacht?

@analog_matt you did amazingly well on camera especially if you hadn't slept for 3 days! Your enthusiasm is infectious.

  • Some videos on the Interweb from individuals just look like barely disguised adverts. Tim, always shows any app he demos Lemmy like warts ‘n’ all.

I recall seeing him spend about 15 minutes, enthusiastically trying to get something good from Layr, without using a preset, and producing not much. What the honesty of that video did was show me that however clever the app might be, dabblers like me would have a hard time. That saved me a few quid, which I soon put into another developers pocket.

Equally, when Tim finds something like FM Player, we get so see not only that it is great, buy also why it is great in practical terms. Bravo.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • In the title of this thread, why do I keep misreading the americanly spelled word ”honor” as “horror”?

OK. I normally am not such much in the stuff Tim does, but all those comments now get me to see this video B)

Tim’s a straight-shooter, in the world of glossy over-egged promo fluff a large dose of real is to be welcomed and encouraged IMO.

Authenticity will win out ... I hope ... If not then humanity is truly @#$&;ed. :D

  • You guys rock! :D

  • Tim gave my christmas single the best review ever, out of all the reviews it had had, back then a few years ago:
