Lol surely it should be a pleasure to play, not a chore! But in fairness I hear you about the ease and convenience of synth apps. I’ve tried to make it easy to jump in with the guitar - my audio interface has iPad, cans, midi keyboard and mic all plugged permanently in and it’s easy for me to then plug the guitar or bass into the remaining free XLR; jack in, cans on, launch Cubasis w/ToneStack and raawk out. I’m trying to buckle down and get a few songs built out to completion at the moment - with a fair degree of success I have to say - but many’s a time I’ve ended up getting lost down a synth rabbit hole. You’re not alone
I think I didn’t touch my guitar for about a year, until recently. A fully loaded ToneStack and unlocked MidiGuitar 2 have me playing pretty much daily now.
Oh yeah I forgot I got an iTrack Pocket recently. That makes it very easy to get going. My previous setup was less than optimal.
I’m definitely a computer person who had some exposure to the pleasure of making music in my youth, and am now returning to it as a hobby and creative outlet.
I’m 41, and believe you me, nobody is as horrified and surprised by that number as I am.
I am really just starting to take music seriously as something that I might be able to approach with adult attention span and dedication, teaching myself the fundamentals of synthesis and music theory. I have likened the first couple tracks I carried all the way through to producing a .wav file to an infant just beginning to articulate sounds: Ba! Ga! and so forth. My musical listening interest ranges from Mozart to Com Truise to Fela Kuti to Red Fang, so it’s really difficult to say what sort of words those Ba! and Ga! sounds are gonna be part of once I get there.
