IPad Pro 10.5 on 10.3.3 what to do?

edited December 2017 in General App Discussion

As per title.

What are the things to consider when faced with iOS 10.3.3 vs 11 dilemma?

I just bought a second hand 10.5 IPad Pro and it turned out it’s never been opened which means it still has 10.3.3 on it. I have a well performing air 2 on iOS 11 but I cannot restore it onto my new Ipad because of iOS difference.

So far I’ve set it up as new and copied all the audio from apps I use.

Considerations:

  1. What apps don’t work on ios11?
  2. Will new iTunes work with iOS 10?
  3. Is it helpful for development to have users on old platforms?
  4. Security issues

Thanks

Seems like I’ve duplicated an existing thread. Wish there was a delete thread button.

  • About 1. There should be a list somewhere in the settings of your Pro which contains the apps that won’t work in ios 11. Of course you have to have the apps that are important to you on the Pro or else the Pro can’t see them and can’t say if they will or will not work on ios 11.

    Thanks Marcel

  • Another big one is the IAA zombies!

  • In your shoes I would upgrade the Pro to iOS 11 and then restore from your backup. Can't see what there is to be gained by staying on 10.3.

Battery drain is on top of the list of reasons. I'm not updating unless there is a real necessity for it. I'm running massive sessions with loads of effects, instances of Zeeon etc. this thing doesn't break a sweat. I feel the same way as I did when I first upgraded from air 1 to 2.

If you want to use AU Midi - i.e Brambos new rozeta plugins, then you need iOS 11....
on the other hand if you have 32 bit apps that you still want to use, then iOS 10 is needed....

afaik these are the only hard and fast rules you need to think about, everything else is preference and could change in the future ( e.g. iOS11 battery drain could not affect you or be eliminated (or made worse) in an update )

  • Updating now. Fingers crossed.
