My label mate has dropped like two or three tapes that are nothing but the FM and a kaospad and tape deck....

Would like to hear that. On Bandcamp or something?

The keys is narly but as far as I can tell you can't save any presets so if you want to recall a patch you made you better get the template and mark the parameters or is gone forever...

Everything but the resonance and the voice knob can be controlled via CCs (if I recall correctly).

A dedicated Volca sequencer app would be pretty fun. Something that had all of the MIDI hacks built in to it so that you can, for instance, send velocity to the FM or play the Sample chromatically, etc. And each track type/Volca type could have a mini control surface so that you could a) store presets for the keys, sample, bass... and b) automate it all easily. IAPs for sending sysex to the FM and samples to sample...

Or maybe these would be better is MIDI AUs that you could load into tracks on your sequencer/host of choice.

    Did you see my links?

Missed those the first time but I'd seen them on Synthtopia before. Something like http://fabriziopoce.com/volcacontrol.html would be a step in the direction I was yammering about but I'd need it to be on iOS for me to ever actually use it! Plus, chromatic volca sample support... /wanty

MidiFltrVs does chromatic volca sample support on iOS.

I think modstep as replacement but cheap windows tablet just for running those maxforlive patches (since 7 version you can run them inside max without ableton) and you have your dreamed machine...

I actually like that max patches run natively inside ableton live 10 now. They also consume a lot less cpu and barely ever crash. My ableton push2 + my iPad running Touchable Pro beta pretty much made me barely use iOS apps most of the time now except as sound sources.....

Yup maxforlive born from pluggo ashes as max for live and people asked for the lost runtime over years... Cycling done the puredata tactic being max free as player, pay version as editor and... loading maxforlive patches as standalones!

That and transport addition (from Ableton I dare) made it a new environment... with Beap and so on it’s a very reliable option for modular hardware based setups. Obvioulsy for those who don’t want Ableton but maxforlive devices.

you do realise these hacks have apps that exist already on ios right ?
    http://artkerns.com/midifiltrvs.html

    http://artkerns.com/midifiltrvf.html

midifiltrvs is a godsend for my volca sample

Thanks for posting - these look like usable alternatives to the Retrokits cable.

    In case anyone is curious:
    https://www.retrokits.com/shop/rk002/

Seems like using the above IOS apps with a Volca Sample and Volca FM would be more economical than using two Retrokits cables (one per Volca), especially since Retrokits advises against using a MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru with it.

Yep. I use the quadra thru myself along with an m-audio X1. Was about to buy a retrokits cable the day these released. Since I only own the sample I only purchased midifiltrVS. Having the ruismakers or any of brambos's other sequencers driving the volca sample are a delight using the Gm mapping conversion.
