Roli Lightpad, Noise app and AU
When using Noise as an AU, is it possible to change the scale or set the arp???
Comments
Uh, Roland has a Lightpad out on the market as well?
No, this is not possible.
Theoretically, you could use the Dashboard to alter the standard setting for the Lightpad, but that is inconvenient.
We really need a Dadhboard for iOS,
There’s me thinking Roland had brought a new toy out!

Ha, sorry all - meant roli, obvi ...
The lack of functionality almost makes the AU non-usable, no??
The sounds that are available in AU are quite good. However the first few times I tried the AU, it couldn’t go past 2 instances without crashing. So I’m waiting to see if they are going to acknowledge/address this before going any further with the app.
I haven’t gotten any errors, but the lightpad isn’t super useful when using the all in Au as you can’t seem to change scale or turn on arp mode etc
u can use the arps and scales in whatever daw/host you are using to get around this ... or audiobus's midi plugins
Not sure what you mean ... I know there are Audiobus apps that do that, but I’m talking about on the lightpad itself ...?
ah, yeah. no. the control blocks ares only for the noise app right now
It was suggested in another thread, to use a MIDI tool(app) to transpose to your liking.
This way the lights will still guide you through a Major/Minor scale of your choice.
IIRC Midiflow is good for doing that. Would not work with GarageBand, though. GB seems to be listening to everything, so it would listen to the original Lightpad MIDI plus the transposed notes, which makes double notes, then.
And I don't know which HOST software actually supports MPE. GarageBand does, Cubasis doesn't really cut it. I don't know about the others HOST APPS.
Does the octave switcher on the Live block not work in apps other than NOISE, then? That seems like a massive oversight. The Lightpad really needs a way to switch octaves.
I’d say that introducing a feature where you could hold the Mode button on the side and then slide left or right on the Lightpad would be the obvious way to do it. I thought the lack of this functionality was just to sell more control blocks, but if there’s actually no way to switch octaves at all in general, then that’s baffling.
Also, the NOISE app seems a bit buggy at the moment. The metronome sound and the visuals of the record count-in don’t match up, for example, which is a bit infuriating. The metronome tells you the correct timing, whereas the visual for the count-in is a step behind where it ‘actually’ should be (eg. when the count-in is on beat 4 of the bar, the visual of the line filling up suggests that you’re on beat 3). This makes timing rather difficult! I don’t know if this has always been the case, but it’s definitely true in the current version which introduced overdub.
I’d love to see that thread, thanks!
Sorry, I don't remember which thread it was, likely a thread with a topic name including the words "ROLI" or "LIGHTPAD". Personally, I am not gonna fiddle around with bypass solutions. I am gonna wait, hoping that ROLI will do a Dashboard for iOS.
I contacted Roli and they sort-of implied that Dashboard functionality might come to iOS. The do listen to users, i think, so please pester them for it.
What method did you contact them? I’m happy to do it. Thanks!
Via their website. Can't remember if there is a form or just an address to use
It's a form, but there also used to be a chat. I used chat some months ago. The chat experience was ok.
Got it. Still trying to figure out how to use midiflow when Noise is being used as AU.
How do you configure something like midiFlow in Au I can’t figure it out
I’d like to know that too. Roli or someone who knows should make a tutorial how to get seaboard/lightpad block working with cubasis as cubasis is on roli’s compatible daws list.
