Weekly Beats 2018 starting... now!

https://weeklybeats.com/ to register

I did this in 2016, nearly everything made with Korg Gadget (stems at https://blend.io/starpause) and am planning to jump back in this year! Just got BM3 and iMPC Pro 2, see if it's worth branching out from Gadget yet

    edit: redacted

  • Was suspicious (wrong word), but listened to some of your stuff and was suitably impressed.

When you say 'beat of the month' perhaps you could outline a little more what you expectations are? Some of us do a Song of the Month Club here and I find it pretty hard to keep up with that, but am committed to the project. As a songwriter more than a musician, the idea of working more on music in 2018 is attractive/probably a good move. But it would have to be an 'AND' not an 'INSTEAD OF' so the scope of work would be good to know :)

This is a nice project. Thanks for posting.

    Edit: Allright, signed in.

  • Hey @staRpauSe , is there a way to convert files to .mp3 on the iPad? All the apps I use seem to favour .m4a as the lossy format of choice, and I want to avoid my PC if I can help it. :D

I wish it did. AudioShare doesn’t, Auria doesn’t, Cubasis doesn’t, Hokusai doesn’t, Xewton Music Studio doesn’t. Lol, does Apple have a rage-boner against the mp3 format or something? :D

  • Starting now.. in 6 days 2 hours 4 minutes 22 seconds ;)

  • I signed up and will try it out. Deadlines are good for motivation/finishing projects.
I want to do the SOTM Club in the coming year as well. Guess these are my resolutions...on second thought, New Year's resolutions usually don't have a very good shelf life...fingers crossed, do work.

Thanks mate. :) I’ll get that.

  • I can only dream of finishing one song a week :|

Good luck with the project :)

  • Even the guys who invented the MP3 format have abandoned it now.

I think maybe final touch can also

  • ^ Audio Mastering also

  • Trash80 added m4a compatibility!!! :smirk: Damn I’m good. Phew, m4a is the better lossy format anyways. :D

  • Cool to see a few of you got into this! And it's never too late to start either ;)

Aaahaha, thank you, glad I made the cut ;)

Hmm... weeklybeats is a personal challenge so everyone approaches it differently. There are definitely some singer/songwriters cranking material out. For me it's pretty literal: writing a beat ever week. So I typically layer things up in a loop until I feel the beat is complete then I'll do some arrangement so it's a bit more listenable... sometimes find time to do a variation or add some flair, usually wind up with a track around 2 minutes.

This year I'm also into photogrammetry so I'm making a 3d model every week and uploading my beat as a soundtrack to it on sketchfab... kind of like a music video but it's 2018 so everything is different now in the future!

The patent expired, now mp3 can be more universally implemented, kind of the opposite of dead. Even if it's not the most effecient lossy encoding, it does a fine job (I always use 320cbr) and plays back everywhere.

Yes to final touch being able to export mp3. I used that a lot last year, this year I'm giving LANDR a run for it's money.
