SWAM / audiomodeling IAPs in Roli noise

The SWAM/Sample Modeling desktop libraries have been my favorite orchestral libraries for a very long time. The closest I’ve come on iOS has been the fabulous fingerfiddle, which I get a lot of use out of, and which uses the touchscreen to great effect for articulation.

When I saw that the NOISE app offers the SWAM libraries, I flippped. But then I saw the caveats ...

  • they don’t work on my iPad (mini 4) so will be limited to using on my iPhone 8+
  • they don’t work in AUV3 format

Are they still worth purchasing? I don’t mind being restricted to using them on my phone.. but can I use them via inter-app audio/audiobus? And can I get good use out of them without owning a piece of Roli hardware? I’m severely tempted, someone talk me into buying them ;)

Otherwise, Fingerfiddle is the absolute best I’ve come across on iOS. I’ve considered Jubal Flute and Sensual Sax for woodwind sounds, as they seem relatively expressive (I heard @Lady_App_titude absolutely kill it on a track with Sensual Sax).

Are there any other options for truly expressive / articulable orchestral sounds on iOS? Anything comparable to Fingerfiddle? Shall I bite the bullet and purchase the SWAM IAPs?

I'm also a long-time Samplemodeling user, and I don't find the SWAM IAPs in the Noise app very attractive because I believe it's not possible to use external MIDI devices (of choice). I must play Samplemodeling instruments with my EWI controller to get the most natural sounding results. Or at least have an expression pedal for the breath intensity if I use a keyboard. I guess with a Roli keyboard it works fine, but I have no plans to get one. EWI and Samplemodeling is a perfect combination, why change it?

  • I think it's great and worth it. I hope for AU or IAA compatibility in future rekeases but even without it there's no compatitor in iOS.

    Have you tried iSymphonic?
    I find the sounds absolutely marvellous & it’s auv3

Notion also have good sound libraries. Especially the desktop version.
