Is the files app the new “open in”?

It seems so, mostly because I work with GB and it’s easier to go to the loops/ sounds page and access whatever I want from the files app

Somehow, pasting from AudioShare into GB doesn’t always work anymore

Pasting from Audioshare into GB stil does work (is my experience). Just make sure it is in the right format. I use .wav files to paste, with no problem.

I have another problem with GB and file management: it is no longer easy to duplicate projects. I cannot find the duplicate option anymore. I now copy a project to another location in the Files app, and copy it back to the first location (with a slightly different name). The option ‘duplicate’ would be much easier.

@Marcel. I found that I can’t import a song from my iPad to the iTunes library of my Mac anymore. I use the same method that I always have but when I drag the file to the iTunes icon it just disappears. Before it would just populate in the library.
I hope I’m just missing something because I used that a lot.

Sorry for rudely changing the subject.

Yea. If you use the files app directly though there’s a duplicate option via long press. So possibly use files for this and navigate to the GB project

  • It kinda is apart from the fact that half of my go to apps don't support it. While they do audio pasting very well.

Ahaa, indeed, yes, thanks, thats it! Weird though that you can’t duplicate within GB itself. But now I know; I have to open the Files app to duplicate a project. Thanks.
Edit: but the duplicate option isn’t available in the Files app with a tagged project when you click a tag under Tags (it then selects the projects you have tagged). Stupid scarcity of the option.

I am not familiar with this workflow, but are you sure it isn’t there? Cause my experience with iTunes on my PC sometimes was that things are there, I only had to do an illogical scrolling action.

Edit: I googled it, and found this, it might help:
“In the left sidebar, click Summary.
    Scroll to the Options section.
Click the box next to "Manually manage music and videos”
    Click apply.”

Thanks for responding. No, I’m not sure. It’s pretty simple when you know what you’re doing. I had a GarageBand tech from Apple support walk me through it step by step initially. I know how sometimes things magically seem to change though. I’ll try the above and see where it gets me.

    Merging tracks automatically duplicates projects

  • Import to GarageBand can on iOS11 be done using Drag'n'Drop when the Files.app floater is open :)

So I'd say an app having Files.app / DocumentPicker support can import /export from/to most places including the beloved AudioShare. Doing an 'export' using Open In. can also send to the file to 'anywhere'.
