Circuit: Isotonik Editor on Mac

https://isotonikstudios.com/product/novation-circuit-editor

Do you use this?

Have you bought the full version? How does it compare to the app?

I bought the app and downloaded this free version. I haven't used the app yet and have not been able to get Circuit to connect to the Mac free version.

How do you connect and get circuit to respond to knob manipulation or patch alterations with this free stand alone version?

Is there a connect feature some where or something you need to do with the Circuit as you connect it?

Comments

  • I use the pro version sometimes, you just need to select the midi in and outs for the Circuit in the configuration panel in the editor. Worked fine then for me.

You need all of the bottom row lit in settings. You then fire up the program and plug your circuit in. It should say circuit in a box on top left. Then you have the option to get current patch into the circuit and tweak it after which you send it back to circuit. You can do batch upload/download too. I never felt I needed the iOS editor since there is one on a PC.

Not quite in front of people yet, other than one vid YT. It syncs with everything like a dream. I originally had all synced to Circuit but loopy would occasionally misread the tempo and do funny things, timestretching loops etc.

The only thing is that when it plays alongside samplr, loopy and Turnado it gets completely underused, just a simple bass line, and drums mostly. I guess the main idea is that if software crashes I circuit keeps playing and saves the day while I restart Audiobus. ;).

Wait you mean Audiobus or iOS music making involves crashes?

    Really.

    Since when?

    LIKE iOS FUCKING 8! LOL

    I agree with you.

I am trying to find the balance myself for its live use. Not until I master it I will try.

    How do you sync it?

    I have heard different methods.

I have 2 main iPads for my set up.

One is independent of midi devices. I use it for Sampr, TC, Figure, School, and other "touch only" apps AUDIO only into the other iPad.

So I am hoping to use iPad#2 to sync Circuit.

Maybe I can use your way.

iPAd #1 is where the midi gear go to.

Yeah, I had it crash on me once in front of a very dancy crowd. Fortunately it was at the beginning of the track so not too bad but I spent a full minute restarting everything. It felt like a fucking whole hour. I think it was my interface playing up, or more likely the USB cable so can't really point the finger at Audiobus. Circuit would have been perfect then, but I still wasn't the proud owner.

    What is your clock master?

  • I’ve spent pretty much the whole day with the dusted-off circuit connected to a Mac Mini running the expensive editor. I’m less satisfied with the synthesis capabilities of the Circuit than I remember assuming I would be. However, the modulation matrix and macros are where a lot of the power is, but still there’s nothing stopping this total void of not knowing what you’re turning when you’re on the circuit, even if you designed the patch yourself.
Then I saved the patches and went out. Later this evening, tried further work on the patches I did, then saved one, and discovered that it hadn’t saved the patches at all! I’d simply wasted the entire day.

Well, that’s probably the last time I touch this thing. My regret is spending money on the editors, which to be frank was the thing stopping me from selling it.
