I don't understand aum
Aum now let me get this right, aum purpose is to play multiple instruments using one midi controller at the same time is that correct? And audiobus just allow you to load like a synth app into a daw is that right? Also is that it's only use?

AUM is mainly an audio mixer, with flexible options for inputs and outputs (hardware, IAA, AUv3, etc). It can also record multiple channels. Read more here: http://kymatica.com/Software/AUM

And Audiobus is like cables to connect your apps together. Before Audiobus you couldn’t play a synth app and record its output in another app. With Audiobus you can route audio (and now midi too) between different apps, add effects to the audio stream, etc. Then Apple came out with InterApp Audio (IAA) which did something similar but without the need for Audiobus, and we now have AUv3 which allows apps to be opened in other apps, so open a synth or an effect directly in a DAW for example. I think the ios music world is rapidly moving towards adopting AUv3 but we will still have these other technologies for some time in parallel.
I don't get this idea that one new format should replace the previous one. They each have their own features and advantages, and fit different forms of workflow. I don't see Audiobus or IAA disappearing because of AU. If your workflow is centered on using a DAW say like you would on a desktop with added plugins etc, then sure you'll focus on AU. But there's lots of other ways to make music on iOS, there's no reason to force them out and impose a single standard.

That's like saying that boats should be phased out because of airplanes. Different tech for different uses.

Anything newer is better. Birds evolved from dinosaurs, which is why we don’t have dinosaurs any more. Dinosaurs evolved from lizards similar to crocodiles, which is why we don’t have crocodiles any more, allegedly (and which is why we don’t have alligators any more). Insects evolved from crustaceans (so the current theory goes (according to recent hox gene mutation experiments to prove the exite hypothesis) which is why we don’t have crabs any more. Fleas evolved from flies (ie, they’re the same family but fleas are far more recent and specialised) which is why we don’t have flies any more. We evolved from apes, which is why we don’t have apes any more.
Er... I think the AB team, especially Michael benefitted greatly from Apple. Apple featured loopy for a long time as a must have app on the App Store
Maybe ask @Michael what his opinion is on the matter before dissing Apple? I think the AB team even met the Apple ceo direct at one stage?

I know the history behind audiobus - and my very first thought about it: 'why wasn't this included in IOS right from the start ?'
Knowing Apple from since 1986 I'm entitled to all kind of statements anyway - they owe me for quite some deals in the past

Personally I find AUM the easiest and best way to jam at home or play live in iOS.
At home, I can put a backing track (coming live from another app or a looping audio file) on one channel and solo on another. Fun!
The other night I played at a Christmas party. I had a piano on one AUM track, an electric piano on another, church organ on another, etc. I stayed on AUM all night, soloed the tracks I wanted and easily adjusted volume with the singers and players.
If you want to record, then a DAW and Audiobus is the way to go IMO, although you can do that in AUM.
There's a lot more to it, of course. It comes with effects, like filter and dynamics. It's a mixer, so you can use buses to send to reverb, Audiobus, etc. You can play one instrument on your MIDI keyboard and a different one on the on screen keyboard.
It teams up well with Audioshare, which comes from the same developer. You can take any of your music from there and play or loop it in AUM.
You have absolutely no understanding of evolution my friend. We still have crocodiles, alligators, crabs, flies and apes. But I love your use of evolution to explain the ongoing developments of iPad music! Awesome
