What device and what sample rate? Try changing the sample rate. On some devices at some sample rates, iOS has some quirks that disappear when working at the device's native sample rate. For example. with an iPad 6, the loops are precise when sample rate is 48k (the hardware's native rate) but slightly off when sample rate is 44k (unless using an interface).
This is because the clock is based on Ableton Link, which uses the hostTime instead of sampleTime, and these are not entirely in sync on some devices in some sample rates. It gets even worse if Link is used (connected and syncing to other peers) because then the synced devices can't be sample precise, because there's no word clock sync between them.
The coming AUM 1.4.0 update will switch to a sample precise clock when Ableton Link is disabled, which should give the exact expected number of recorded samples.
@espiegel123 , iPhone 13, 48000 Hz. I get an error when trying to set to a different rate
@j_liljedahl that’s great news.
Can I set up Aum so that it starts recording on playback? I’ve got Gadget open in Aum and start/stop is synced to an op-z. Aum starts recording as soon as i arm playback, even with everything stopped.
I need to bump this thread. I'm trying to make a loop but whenever I record and hit the stop recording and play it as loop there's a second gap, tried many times and getting frustrated. Is there a way to fix it without audioshare?
What sample rate are you using? What sync quantum? What sync settings?
Using 2 sync quantum, 44 sample rate
What device ?
What are you synching to?
If you read up-thread you will see that due to the way the hardware works, there are discrepancies when many devices run at 44.1k (long story. it is because the hardware does something funny). Try running at 48k. Also, the behavior is different when sync is turned on. When synching, AUM needs to remain synched to and sometimes the sync signal is slightly off from the sample clock. Jonatan explains up-thread somewhere.
I have ipad pro 2020 and launch key 49. Just changed the sample rate to 48 didn't have much difference, have a silent at the end.
Edit: it worked only when i keep playing few more seconds after i hit record button
Do you have sync turned on (Ableton link)?
Are you using an audio interface?
Yes I'm using umc202hd. Ableton link is disabled
What happens if you disconnect the interface?
Hmmm good question bc my speakers are connected to it. Probably have to use headphones then
It is worth trying as a data point. What is it that you are recording into the loop?
Does this happen at all tempos?
I tried 90 and 130.. If i punch in and out doesn't do it, i have to keep playing extra few seconds. I don't understand by what you mean as data point, and I'm trying record arps mostly.
By data point, I mean it provides more information.
Have you ever opened the audio files in an audio editor? Is the issue that the loop is the wrong length or that there are some samples of silence at the beginning?
The issue this thread was about was the result of the files being a handful of samples too long or short. What you are describing sounds different.
How long is the gap? Are you sure you're stopping by tapping REC again, and not STOP?
