OT: Readly app?

Valuing the insight and honesty of reviewers here, I wonder if anyone has the Readly magazine app? If so, does it perform as advertised, and is the pricing accurate?

I’m seeing varying reports, with some praising it as a great app, delivering as many magazines as you like for a single monthly price, and others saying that cancelling payments is difficult.

Comments

  • No Economist? Thats bull. I wish they’d make a Spotify Books

  • And I don’t see how canceling payments could be difficult...just go to your account settings, payment options, and enter your ,
    ‘new’ card number...Beverly Hills 90210

    Well there’s kindle unlimited....

  • Publicity can claim anything. But is anyone here actually using this app?

  • There are probably savings to be had by buying your subscription outside the AppStore but that’s where it may become hard to find the way to cancel it

Yeah, BiancaNeve. A,ready read through the reviews, and found that IAP subscription has a nasty surprise; higher cost than claimed. They seemin no hurry to fix this. But ‘proper’ subs can be bought via website.

I dunno about the pricing. Around Christmas time you can get a year of 3 different magazines for $12 total. Unless your interests are very wide ranging or you just love browsing magazines, $120 a year seems high. Especially compared to Spotify when you consider the cost of a magazine is 1/3 the price of an album, and it’s still just $10/month.

What is attracting me is the idea of magazines across the spectrum of my interests AND Mrs Zen’s interests, so that is maybe 12 or more a month, for the cost of less than a couple of print magazines per month.

I suppose I’m testing the waters, trying to find the catch before spending anything.

They offer a free trial through the iPad app. Activate it, then go to your subscriptions immediately and cancel it. You’ll still get access during the trial period then it won’t renew.

Yeah, I’ll likely give it a go. :)

    EDIT

Just found that it is possible to buy gift subscription, for differing periods. That way there can be no accidental rollover and providing it’s possible to pay via PayPal - haven’t got that far, yet - then CC details safe.
