GeoshredPlay - NEW APP!

Did you notice that?
Can someone tell me what are the differences between GeoshredPlay and Geoshred?

  • It´s a player version and can play Geoshred presets and you might have a very limit amountof parameters for editing.
But you can´t edit and/or create own presets like you could do with Geoshred.

  • I’m assuming it’s the baited hook. :D You buy it, realize how great GS is, and do the upgrade. Excellent idea. One of my favourite apps on iOS.

Geoshredplay is a preset player with a diatonic playing surface so now you can just wiggle your finger on the screen make pleasing sounds. They also added the diatonic mode to geoshred as well so if you have Geoshred you don't need this.

  • I held off on buying GS for so long, thinking that the hype was all from keyboard players whose fingers didn't work on a fretboard. How wrong I was... I find myself gravitating to GeoShred more often than my real guitar.

I always set up my playing surface like a guitar fretboard, so all the notes are in familiar places.

Diatonic mode is guaranteed to prevent you from developing any useful chops. But if your music never changes chords at all that may not matter.

    +1

  • I see the new app has the ability to play backing tracks from iTunes. Jordan mentions that he'll be creating some to play over also, but I don't see those on Pro yet. You access the menu via the '...' menu on Pro.

So who is the Wrlds1stBst Geo Shredder? And mind explaining what you meant here? I have to be honest that I'm still stuck in pentatonic minor and major modes on my guitar and just learning theory.

Guitar fretboards and piano keyboards have fingering patterns that are different for different chords and different keys. If you always play the diatonic control surface, then you won't learn how to alter notes as necessary when the chord or key changes, because that possibility does not even exist on a diatonic surface.

This is not a problem if your music is very harmonically simple (except that it limits you to playing very harmonically simple music. Which is perfectly cool.). And even within that simple harmonic framework, you're also limited to just playing melodies with the diatonic notes. Chromaticism is not available.

It's like a painter only having one color to work with. He can still make something great, but he's never going to really develop his color sense to a high degree.

Here's my Geoshred video. It's only two chords, but there is some chromaticism in there that would not be possible on a diatonic surface:

  • Ah so it’s basically the dumbed down version of Geoshred? :D

  • How do you do this?

  • Is the midi out working on this?

I believe the GS control surface menu allows you to select a guitar string layout, instead of the default all-fourths. I've never done this, being fine with the fourths myself.

  • I think having the diatonic surface as an option is a good thing, provided it is always as an option.

Go to '...' and then press Performance Settings. Then choose the Keyboard tab and in the lower section you pick Standard Guitar. By default it says Geo Shred All Fourths.
