*Solved* DrumJam Misbehaviour and Disobedience
I feel like this is already been discussed on the forum, so I apologize if it has. I’ve been struggling with this constantly. @sonosaurus perhaps you can help?
Okay so I have been a huge fan of the DrumJam app for a long time. Among other things percussion has always been one of my favorite elements to add to music. This app is usually runs on my iPad air 2 (11.1.2) and sometimes on my iPad Pro 12.9 2017 (11.1.2) although my Pro doesn’t have the issue as much. I like to use it a lot with my guitar/singing centered songs, because there is nothing else like it. Usually shakers, framedrums, tambourines and drums to add to the mix already going on in Ableton Live Suite. But for whatever reason drumjams Ableton link does not work well at all. Sometimes it will be playing in sync but then glitch out for 2 to 3 seconds before regaining itself. That’s one thing, but what really gets me is when I push play to start it on top of something (even right at the start of the AL loop cycle) and it comes in all sloppy and off beat CONSTANTLY! This is not good when trying to do a live video! I have tried everything I can think of…
MIDI Link Sync
Link to MIDI
In and out of Audiobus/AUM
Audiobus Remote on or off (from same iPad and also external iPad/iPod)
Link on or off inside Audiobus/AUM
Linked to an app with Clock Sync (Patterning, Loopy, FunkBox etc)
Still no matter what I do, I cannot overcome DrumJam coming in off beat or glitching out.
Maybe you guys have some other advice? Something else I can try? I don’t know why this is a problem, but this app has always been like this. I absolutely love it because there’s no better percussion app that I know. Plus the playable pads and X/Y are amazing. And it works with Ableton Link. (well, kinda). Garageband’s percussion section would be a dream if it could sync to Ableton Link. Anyways, thanks for listening. Sometimes I wonder if DrumJam just has too many polyrhythms going on at once to properly sync! Thoughts? Advice? @sonosaurus ? Thanks...

Apparently I did not give FunkBox enough time and effort. After trying everything a second time, FunkBox was the app that syncs everything up great no problems whatsoever with DrumJam.... hmmmm go figure....Celebration video coming soon…
Sorry I didn’t respond earlier! I too have seen the behavior from DrumJam where starts can be weird, especially after tempo changes. Usually it happens with midi clock sync rather than Link, though. Please detail your findings about when it works and when it doesn’t, because I suspect something needs to be fixed.
