Aum, Rozeta, Xequence
Wondering if anyone is using Aum, Xequence and Rozeta together. My goal right now is to record the MIDI output from Rozeta, hosted in AUM, into Xequence. MY specific issue is that I'm able to record Rozeta into Xequence just fine, but I'm not able to sync transport between AUM and Xequence. The latter is brilliant but does not have very extensive sync/transport options.
Anyone had any luck? Any advice besides record it and fix thing on the back end? I'm not looking for super tight timing, just starting and stopping together.
Thanks in advance,
M

What you can do is enable Ableton Link in both Xequence and AUM, which will at least have both timelines run in sync when you hit play / record in either.
Thanks for your response! I'll give it a try. It would not have occurred to me to try Link -- I'm not really familiar with it. I've never bothered with MIDI sync between apps (seems to be a headache), just transport (hitting play in one app to start another).
I believe AUM has its own "host sync" feature. Kymatica seems to recommend using that over other sync options
I also intend to use a similar setup (Xequence records Rozeta output).
@papertiger: MIDI sync is a really great technology and can do things that Link can't (sync Start / Stop, sync absolute song position etc.)... unfortunately it's often badly implemented, and most hosts on iOS can only be the master (send sync), but not slave to (receive) it. (I have to admit that Xequence can only send either...). One host that CAN slave to MIDI sync very well is Beatmaker 2. Not sure about 3.
I use Xequence to drive (start/stop) and control audio loops in AUM. Works well.
I have a control Track in Xequence which contains CCs and note data fired back to AUM on Ch16. As long as Link is enabled it works fine.
I have a template file in AUM which has start/stop/rec all bound to midi notes C0/C1/C2 - make sure that ‘Toggle’ is turned off.
In the Control Track in Xequence place a C0 note (bound to Start in AUM) at the beginning of bar one and extend as far as you want AUM to play. Note that AUM needs a bar to hit the sync quantum so put all your miditacks a the beginning of bar two in Xequence. To get AUM to Rewind to the beginning you need to place a short C1 note (bound to Rewind) at the beginning of bar one (see screen grab)
This way you can sync any audio tracks in AUM to Xequence midi tracks. You can even start audio tracks playing at the desired point by inserting a note in the control track at the appropriate place - you will have to bind the note value to the audio play switch for the track you want to play. You can control fade in/outs using CCs bound to the channel volume fader in AUM.
@ageezz thanks!!! Been trying to sort that all out. Xequence is wonderful.
@ageezz that's a very interesting hack there, thanks for sharing.
I'm wondering, as this is not quite ideal: do any folks here know of another DAW apart from BM2 (not 3!) that DOES support MIDI Clock Sync SLAVING? We have referred to BM2 in our manual and other places because it's the only DAW I know of on iOS that can reliably sync to MIDI clock (and thus give you audio tracks in conjunction with Xequence).
Is there any other audio-track-supporting (tm) DAW on iOS that reliably syncs to MIDI clock, including SPP?
If so, you should share it so people can stop devising ingenious, but hacky workarounds
Not 100% daw, but Beathawk works well sync’ ed up.
edit- still looking for the perfect set up though, especially in regard to external transport control. My ideal is to press play (etc.) on my controller and have everything running from that.
In the middle of my personal Xequence renaissance, and I was searching for how to use Rozeta (hosted in AB3). Then I came across this wondrousness. Haven’t really dived into the audio player in AUM. Don’t suppose you’ve got a video of this magic?
Not a DAW, but a powerful sequencer nonetheless, Patterning slaves very tight to external midi clock. XEQUENCE NEEDS EXTERNAL MIDI SYNC. PERIOD
MODSTEP 2 slaves to ext Midi clock
+1 seems tricky to implement however.
The gauntlet has been thrown.
