Rozeta feature request - percussion module
@brambos I have lots of lovely percussion samples but they sound a bit naff when I sequence them. How about a Rozeta percussion module with random patterns of rising/falling velocities, different rolls, multi hits per beat, etc? A bit of shimmer and shake
Comments
I get a bit of variety by pointing a few different modules at ReSlice - Bassline, Collider etc. rather than just using one thing.
Rosetta is a sequencer and shouldn’t need a sound module. You could support Bram Bos with purchase if Ruismaker or Ruismaker FM.
You could try a compressor or other effect to enhance the sound too. The Audio Damage compressor is free!
They aren't asking for a sound module ?
They're asking for a percussion sequencer.
Thank you. @Samplemunch is right, I’m talking just MIDI. (I have all Bram’s apps
).
Do wish Reslice supported incoming MIDI velocities however.
I think XOX works quite well for percussion. Especially with the mut dialled up
@brambos I would like it if the rate of the LFO in the LFO module would update as I adjust it. Right now it changes value only when I lift my finger, so it makes it somewhat of a guessing game as to what value I am setting the LFO rate to. If it is a pain to implement, then I can live with how it is. I am getting better at setting it by ear, and kind of like the slightly mismatched Rate/Tempo combos that result sometimes.
I love X0X but it still sounds a little stiff for percussion to these big ears (might be how I'm programming it of course). The closest I can get with X0X is pointing a second X0X at the same percussion samples (e.g. Beathawk) and dialling up the Shift so the timing changes slightly.
Quantum is very good with percussion so I should probably master that first and revel in the Rozeta riches we already have.
I just thought it was unfair on @brambos that @jimpavloff was getting all the feature requests
There are some easy remedies to making it less robotic (although it will always still be an x0x step sequencer of course.. hence the name
)
Give it a bit of shuffle (~4-7%), set the velocity variation in the MIDI panel to something audible (20%?) and use the new accent feature. That should be a start
Yes, the velocity variation in the MIDI panel and the accents are good tips!
It would still be interesting to play with split parts/rolls with velocity changes etc. but loading up a couple of X0Xs with different variation and shuffle settings at the same samples gets most of the way there. Good times.
Sounds like you're maybe looking DrumJam along with its Bedlam feature. Would definitely make for a fun MIDI only AU.
Thanks for the reminder! Haven’t used that feature for a long time.
Anyway, I don’t want to come across as ungrateful. The Rozeta suite is already amazing. Just thinking out loud.
Always open for suggestions!
@brambos right on.
Being able to duplicate a Rozeta AU and all of its settings into another channel in AUM or to another pad in BM3 would be cool (or can you already?).
Yes, just save it as a user preset in the AUM preset panel. This will capture all the settings of that instance. Not sure about BM3, but I suspect it should be possible.
Sorry, I mean duplicate it within the same session so it can be sequenced along side the first with some settings tweaked. Not a big request though.
That's what Bram is talking about (I think). I do this a lot. Get something going with a Rozeta sequencer in AUM, save it as a preset (not an AUM preset, a sequencer AU preset). Create a new AUM channel, add the same sequencer, go to the sequencer preset load and there it is.
That said, a 'Duplicate Channel' feature in AUM suddenly seems a lot more attractive since Rozeta landed.
Oh, I see. That is cool!! I just tested it in AUM and get it now. It doesn't seem to save the Shuffle or variations as part of the preset but that's no biggie. Nice workaround!
I hadn't noticed that. Bug?
Possibly.. which plugin is that?
A couple of feature requests from me:
A cc step sequencer module.
Clock dividers for all modules
Cells module mode: play selected (select multiple cells) Ability to copy and paste individual cells.
Thanks for this inspiring developing toolset @Brambos
(+1)*4
Clock dividers would be SUPERB. Always wishing I could do that with bassline. Would also really love to be able to copy individual cells but couldn’t imagine how it would work with Bram’s specific style of design. I know it’s not my job to worry about such things but I still do for some reason.
