  • I’ve bought pretty well everything. Some things not mentioned by others is PianoVerb and SpringVerb. Great reverb tools. I use the Golden Glue pack in Convolution as well, it’s excellent. The DCAM packages are excellent; the compressors sound great. I have the Env Shaper, but it was one that I bought a long time ago, didn’t know what it was for. Going to have do some research. I don’t have Overloud, Turnado or WOW, I bought WOW as an external app, but have not had time to muck with it.

Both Cubasis and Auria Pro gave their strengths, that’s why I use both.
I also use AudioEvolution, n-track 8 Pro & Music Studio. My alternative sequencers.

I LOVE Music Studio. As sappy as I’ll sound, it’ll always have a special place in my heart for nostalgia purposes, for still having that comfy familiar skeuomorphic GUI, for having a decent customizable sampler, and for having a great library of sounds (whuch received for new ones with a recent maintenance update).

I don't mind being sappy for Music Studio, it gives me such a visual Pro Tools feeling.
Some of the sounds are pretty good, and I just wish Auria Pro & Cubasis had that kind of excellent file management. Catalog hierarchy is the best way, like AudioShare.

  • On a separate note .. has pro l2 for auria been realeased?

Only thing with Auria is why don’t all the IAA apps show up?

It depends on the IAA type where they show up

    • The ‚instrument‘ popup of a midi track only shows IAA Instruments
    • The ‚insert’ popup in the channelstrip of a midi or audio track shows all IAA types

    The types are

    • IAA Generator - Produces audio, no IAA midi input taken (but maybe has other midi ports)
    • IAA Instrument - Takes IAA midi plus its other midi inputs) and produces audio
    • IAA Effect - Takes audio and produces modified audio
    • IAA Music Effect - Takes audio plus IAA midi and produces modified audio

You can find out the type of an IAA in AUMs plugin select list.

  • Wow nice to know, Thanks!

No. If you own Auria, just check the store in the app.

While back, it was possible to unlock Turnado and WOW in Auria as a plug-in if you had bought them as a seperate app, I haven't checked recently, but I did have Turnado in Auria as a plug-in. Is this still the case?

me too. Actually I used it for the first time only recently. It is mainly meant for percussive material. Try it first on single drum tracks and its purpose will reveal itself.

So far, Auria Pro is still on my new iPad but i'm yet to feel comfortable working with it.>

    >

That’s because AP is not the most intuitive app. There are also quirks and bugs which make it harder than Cubasis to use and to learn. But once you do know how to bend it to your will, it is still the more versatile product.

As for using filters in AP other than FF, I use MicroWarmer on vocals, all the time.

With reference to FF, I held off buying Pro-R until a sale, and yet it is the only FF I have been disappointed with. Likely because the devs intend it to be used in more subtle and different ways, on specific instruments, as opposed to what I’ve tried. Whereas, every other FF I’ve bought has been an instant hit, improving whatever track it is used on. One day, I’ll get how to work to magic properly, and be glad for my purchase. ;)

On the Auria Pro vs Cubasis thing, I've also got both as well as several others like FL Studio and BM3. I mostly do MIDI work and have evaluated all the above and more pretty extensively.

I get why Auria's interface might be considered off-putting. It looks a lot like a Desktop Daw and to that extent is somewhat at odds with the iOS 'touch' paradigm. But once you get below the surface you soon realize that this is simply because of the power and range of functionality Auria Pro offers, which surpasses any other iOS Daw.

The other thing that needs saying, because I don't hear it said on hear very often, is that in terms of MIDI editing, Auria Pro is streets ahead of Cubasis or anything else. Why? Because you can do things you simply can't do in other iOS DAWs such as
    (1) view MIDI tracks other than the one your working on in the background (reference tracks) just like you can in Desktop DAWs. This is a godsend for complex MIDI programming.
    (2) You can easily adjust the velocity for individual notes or a selection of notes using the Velocity up and down buttons, and velocity is colour coded so you can easily see and correct 'outliers' etc
    (3) You can select ALL the notes of a particular pitch on a track by tapping on the relevant note on the keyboard on the left hand-side of the screen.

On top of that there are numerous velocity rescale and randomize options which aren't available in any other DAW that I'm aware of.

So, for MIDI work, I'd say Auria Pro wins. That said, if you're a Cubase user on the desktop than Cubasis is possibly the way to go because the iOS projects are compatible but otherwise take the plunge and get to grips with Auria Pro. It will pay you back many times over!

that's very interesting, most people say that Cubase is the way to go as far as Midi. I don't do a whole lot with midi, so I don't know, or have an opinion one way or the other.

  • I’ve been looking at this and you’re right, Midi is pretty deep.

  • I like PSP Springverb ... Definitely leaves a more colorful impression than ProR in a way that I find quite pleasant in certain cases. Also Overloud THM is a wonderful and underappreciated guitar amp/cab sim. -- .. Those are the only ones I've tried outside of Fab/Sugar Bytes ..

  • Wait, there's other plug ins besides the Fabfilter stuff in Auria?

    :o

    Mind blown!

  • envelope shaper is an essential tool for me as well.Along PSP Oldtimer and Micro Warmer which i use in every track
