iOS 11.2.2

So I noticed there’s another security update now. I’m a bit worried about this one maybe slowing down devices after hearing iOS is also affected by the same security problems that were found with all intel processors recently. Apple say nothing at all about any details of the security fix. Anyone feeling brave?

  • Yeah.. I'll update my Air 2. Don't want to have it hackable anyway.

Anyone know of a good benchmarking tool so I can run a before-after benchmark for you?

  • Geekbench seems to be a well known one, but not free, 1.09€

I think this is the one that was used to originally find the old battery slowdown.

  • Ok, I'll use Geekbench. Cover me... I'm going in... :)

    Crossing fingers...
    Thanks, @brambos

  • If Geekbench is to be believed, the update made my Air 2 faster :D

Not sure what to make of this, but I'd say the update didn't hurt the performance of the iPad very significantly...

  • apple have rigged geekbench?!
funny, i started a search for such an app last night and thought it was too late and went to bed.
but those numbers are good enough for me.
    sweet

  • Ha, that’s a great surprise!

  • That’s good Bram. Cheers. Updating now.

confirming @brambos analyse, it's strange but on both my devices geekbench shows slightly BETTER performance after update :) of course the difference is super small :)

  • It would be great if others could run this on different devices pre and post update.

If anything to see what device is to become 'heritage' next ;)

    What device is this?

    @supadom

  • Yeah but your battery is only going to last 5 mins now

The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Geekbench is useless to compare audio tools performance anyway.

  • It would be more helpful if geekbench provided a more detailed report from each metric rather than just the global score which is akin to the NFL's mysterious QBR or quarterback rating score.

Some of the details on geekbench. It does quite a bit and uses generally sound methodology.

Do audio tools developers measure their computational kernels with hardware counter based tools like PAPI?

  • Just did the update and had a “attempting data recovery” scare, but looks like it recovered everything okay

  • For those that did the geekbench tests, did you reboot the device before running the first test on the old os?
Slight improvement may just be because the device has rebooted after the upgrade.

  • My iPad Pro Mark I just gets faster and faster. iOS 11.22 is Okidoki.

My iPhone 6s is also showing a slight speed increase.

  • I’m not sure but it seems battery life has decreased after this one for my SE.

    :( Grabbed an SE recently...

  • Look for Brambos’ battery tips great thread. Really increased the available cpu juice on both my Air 1 & SE.

  • Enough with the battery life paranoia. Show stats or just enjoy your device

Battery life on my SE is caned since the update, stats or no stats, I’m forever charging it.

It's strange, isn't it? My SE battery usage seems to be exactly the same.

Actually it bombed after the main ios11 update, I'm lucky if I get 6 hours out of it now. The latest update has probably made things worse, who know's. It's only a year old though so at some point Apple will get a visit.

Also noticing both my SE and Air 2 are dropping in and out when charging. Most likely cables or socket issues - sonce everything is clean in there, but disconcerting since this issue borked my last iPhone 5.

  • Is anyone sure this is the security update that could contain the performance hit.

  • We now get a low power mode on iphone :)
This is new and well needed, but doesn't appear on ipad.
