info on pricier Synths needed
Time for sales is over. Some Synths go never on sale. Over time some of us have hoarded a lot of synths. I have too.
Here are the Synths I don't have yet because they are pricy or i dont know if they're worth the price tag.
Some comparisons or hints for the following Synths will be appreciated:
20$ :
Phonem,PPG infinite, Wavemapper , Wavegenerator
LayR, NFM, Dhalang, csSpectral, Addictive Pro
10 $:
csGrain, Poison, Ops
What do they offer others don't have, or is the workflow better?
Answers could be like:
if you have y dont buy X because Y does essentially the same".
or
"X is unique because ..."
X works good for ...
All other synths are already assimilated
Comments
prices of iOS synths are so ridiculous low (even those "pricier"), that it is worth every one .. compare it to average price of desktop plugins synths !
all plugins you listed here are gread, every one one have different pros a const but all of them are worth to have, if you need sounds which they are able to make
I somewhat regret some of my synth spending sprees, simply because I've found quite a few to have redundant sounds, or similar but slightly inferior to better synths I already had.
Infinite is the only PPG synth I have so far, and that is among my top 5 absolute favorites. You really can't go wrong with Wolfgang Palm synths. I would definitely start with that one, since it's his most recent and deepest offering. I've heard they're all worth it though.
Layr is another excellent , powerful synth...especially if you like evolving ambient pads/drones. I'm looking forward to learning to use it as more than a Rompler... Like infinite, it's extremely deep and definitely has a learning curve.
First time I've heard of NFM , though I already have what I believe to be the best FM synths , FM4, Crystal Synth XT, TF7 and Phasemaker ., among one or two others, so prob won't need any more unless Arturia were to port their DX7 to iOS. Love that one on windows
I like Addictive Pro ...though I need to dive in and use it more soon. Not my favorite synth of its sort ., but it's definitely up there in the top 20 for me.
Got most of the others on my own wishlist: PPG, csGrain, csSpectral and Dhalang. I love super deep, highly programmable audio environments, which those seem to be. Though I've already got too many other apps I haven't mastered yet, so it'll be a while before I take the plunge.
Peter Vogel CMI Pro: $49,99
Lovely synth! Just played that one for the first time yesterday. Was originally planning to get the iOS version, but ended up getting the VST one bundled in Arturia V Collection .. I'm a child of the 80s , so these certainly bring back the memories.
p.s. I'm blown away by how close Arturia's iSem is to the VST version ...another must have classic for iOS.
They're really in the best position to bring some real competition to Korg, if they bring more of these great synths to mobile.
Syntronik: $79.99 (all in)
SampleTank: $49.99 (all in)
and of course Korg's stuff
OP
What type of music are you making?
What do you now have?
Are you experienced in synthesis?
Are you looking to do patches your self of use preset sounds?
I got a brand new modular synth plug-in for $9
You can get some other synths often for $1.
Otherwise apple and oranges.
To the synths, i think all PPG apps are great and unique. Infinite would be my choice. But the PPG apps are very special and not easy to use always. Very complex stuff. Worth the price for me for sure but that is hard to say for other people.
I don't have any of these, but from your list, based on talk around this forum and YT reviews, PPG Infinite and LayR are the two I would get.
I have Poison 202 and really like it. It seems to cover the same ground as other synths though, so if you already have everything else (I think this is what you meant by assimilated?) then you might not need it. It is very versatile, sounds great, easy to use, and supports AU. I bought it mainly for the sound quality and versatility, but I only had free synths or really cheap synths when I bought it. It was intended to by be my workhorse synth.
a. DRC is a very interesting and unique dark analog emulation and circuit based synth by amazing independent developer.
b. Mood is similar sound and function as DRC. (personal preference)
a. Layr is something special for many things, in particular my use of cinematic and lush soundscape of a light introspective nature and evolving sound pallet.
b. iVSC3 is another unique iOS app. This is a real deal sonic experiment that is not for "using quick to do a song type thing".
iVSC3 and Layr are apps that you can use totally alone and spend hours taking journeys and fiddling with intricate and exciting ways.
c. SynthScraper is the 3rd in this category for experimenting.
Animoog and Nave are a must me. I use majority of time.
Thor is a must for me as well. I MAKE 60% of my songs completed.
Apps like Tera from Virsyn are monsters for a variety of sounds.
DON'T FORGET CONSIDER THIS APPROACH.
GADGET with iap and GROOVE BOX with iap are 2 apps that are my main workhorses. They cover most synth apps and I really could do most of what I do with them along with one or two "lead" or "boutique" sounds.
I actually wish sometimes that is what I did.
Best vintage synth collection and quality is the IK media Syntronik. Beast but massive in size.
I am sure I forgot a bunch like item i-sem and all of the Brambos apps that are bar none amazing and superb quality.
Don't forget to grab Klevgrnd apps as well.
I just realized my post is not helpful. It is the exact reason I have so many issues with iPad storage....LOL
Hope it helped someone.
Of the more expensive synths I own (circa $20+), my favorites are Model 15, Animoog, and Geoshred. I have LayR but do not like its sound. It doesn't suck; it just doesn't sound that good to me. I don't use it. I do like the same developer's Ostinator looper, so I hope he stays in business.
Did you recently buy the $9 modular plug-in? Would love to know more about it!
Cyclop is a bit pricey but its really deep and unique. Ive been watching tutorials lately trying to figure it out and there actually is logic to that crazy looking interface. It is also available on the computer and costs $100 so the iOS version is a deal at $25.
too few. i'v got more ios-synths than pieces made. when i had just a few i did more.
i have a job, so i'm doing more relaxing than music on evenings.(heavy procrastination)
i'd like to do electronic industrial funk (tackhead crossbreeded with steve reich)
i'll have to try the pants of death approach to creativity
nearly all sequencers,
synths: All or nearly all : korg, sugarbyte, icegear, yonac, apesoft, arturia, moog, and many others
hardware:
)
beatstep (not pro
volca sampler
nanokontrol v1
behringer BCR2000
not really,
i can get something out of a synth but sometimes i don't arrive at what i want to achieve.
like the sound of a electrocuted capacitator in the
"The Human League - The Black Hit of Space" @ 0:43
messing around with all sorts: substractive,FM,Grain,Wavetable,
if the preset is nice, why not use it?
some synth with good capabilities come with shitty presets so you have to do your own.
starting from scratch is fine with me.
Synths don't have to be warm
cold , piercing , dissonant is the new black.
Just the opposite - for me LayR is the the best of the lot. Eclipsed Nave as my standout synth. I love the rich sound, from deep moogy to glistening pads. You have to use the layers - and lots of them. The FX though limited are outstanding - wish other synths had a Reverb as good.
TF8. Best reverb in an iOS synth ever
It was on sunday but i think the sale is over. It even was for $5 for intro price but i got extended (for KVR members only i think) for $9.
It‘s called Fathom 2 (Now v2.1). Works even for multi-touch on windows.
If by 'Here are some synths I don't have yet' you're saying 'I own most of the iOS synths out there except for these' I reckon you're all set. I love a few from this list but damn, imagine what your studio would look like if you had all of the other ones you do own have laid out on keyboard stands.
Doing a Google search from my phone, I found this. I’m guessing this is it? Looks like it’s still on discount for $12.
https://www.fathomsynth.com/
Do you like it so far? I’ve been recently getting into desktop software, and this looks like something different than the usual.
^Yes, this one. I doesn‘t had really much time to test it yet but i thought for $9 i just bought it
But you see plug-ins don‘t have to be expensive.
Nowadays it is easier to buy synths than make music.
something like ..this
i'm thankful that ios synths are cheaper than hardware and desktop stuff.
Yeah I keep meaning to print out a coffee table flipbook or poster of all the digital synths and apps I own to remind and inspire as the problem with digital things is they disappear from view all too quick
Rofl. So true
for me, the solution for the music apps would be making screenshots of the audiobus compatible apps and just paste them together.
the non-music-apps...
Not true at all! It‘s both easier
I just fire up a load of Rozeta's and point it at different synth's and kits and hit record.
dayyyyum.
Alternate configuration of the same room.

A layout. +10 for "RTFM Cart".
