iPad DEAD, any tips welcome.
My 12,9 Pro Mark 1 fears burial in an unmarked paupers grave, and things look bleak...
I’m just thankful to myself that I didn’t throw away my Air 1. And I still got my 6s...
But here’s what happened:
For the last couple of weeks, my screen have been a bit unresponsive, especially in the upper area... like it’s hanging for a bit. Things kinda froze for about 5 secs and then everything was fine. First I thought it was the new liquid bathroom soap that had made my fingers slippery (Dettol). But the Apple Pen wielded the same response. I shrugged it off for the time being, needing my iPad very badly.
Today though, I was browsing in pictures, and click... kinda electric buzz klick of the abyss of death and eternal torture and darkness... the screen went dark. My “eternal beloved” just died. No power, nothing. It’s as useful as a brick of stone now. It’s the first Pro running the latest iOS. I’ve had it 1,5 years,
I guess apple fixes it if I send it in... 3-4 weeks without my upper brain register. Fuck it!
Anyone else had this sad experience?
It’s like when you dent or crash your car... you hear money rolling out of your pocket to that crumbling sound.

660€ to be precise
It’s worth getting a $20 kit to open it up and see if a connector is loose.
Yep, I had one go bad of about the same age.
It was out of warranty so I resigned myself to dropping AU$900 and getting a new one.
Before I did I went to the local Apple store though and after 5 minutes confirmation ( after needing to book an appointment mind) they replaced it and reset the warranty period.
I asked about the out of warranty thing and they said they do it for customer goodwill.
Not many Pros go bad, apparently. If you can get to a store give it a go.
Yes @TheVimFuego is right.. it can’t hurt to try and see what apple can do...always approach them in a calm manner even if they say that there’s nothing that they can do just ask to speak to someone else....
I’m in the UK but in my experience not much has been done until I speak to someone from the US.
1 and a half year old?
Insist on your consumer rights! Try to visit an Apple Store, if not cooperative, call for the "manager" to resolve issue. In case even this don't help: Call Apple Care, escalate immediately to the "senior advisor" and try again.
If purchased in Europe your device is still under a statutory warranty but my advice is still the same
I think when you spend this kind of money on a supposedly ‘pro’ machine you should expect it to last way longer than 1.5 years, especially when it comes to hardware.
Definitely go back to them and push for a replacement. Call for line managers, stir it up if you have to but don’t give them any money as you are dealing with a reputable company and they know as well as you do that 1.5 years is a ridiculously short amount of time for highest quality tech to go bad.
Unless they can prove you’ve misused it you should be ok.
Good luck.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear in Europe there is a 2 year warranty for electrical purchases
Which country are you in?
Is true in Spain, but...
6 first months the law consider is a item default. You can ask for a new item if it can't be fixed.
next 18 months, maker or seller could force you to prove is an item default.
Im in Norway and I checked when I bought it... November 2016
November 2016. I guess I still have warranty
Thanks guys. I’m located in Norway, and I still have warranty. Bought it nov. 2016
But to use my old iPad Air for 2,3 weeks while waiting for repairs... I dunno how long Apple takes to fix this. Any experience wih Apple repairs?
They probably won’t repair it but just swap the device with a reconditioned one, or at least they did this way for me
They should just replace it, repairing wouldn’t be worth their (or your) while IMO.
As others have said it’s probably covered by your statutory rights regarding electronic goods.
Thank you Apple for iCloud then... or I would have lost everything, all my current work, arrangements, 2 string finished quartets, a wind quintet and a fuge for winds... and of course everything in Cubasis. But I had just backed those files up to Dropbox
All I lost was a project with Phonem in modstep, though I got the audio in AudioShare, so I can reconstruct it...
But if I don’t get the same iPad back I will be hurt romantically. Although I’m married I’ve had an affair with my iPad “Mayuko” for about a year. They can’t bloody well be so savage tha5 they ditch her in an unmarked paupers grave...
I’m gonna have to play Mozart’s requiem...
They’ll probably fix it and resell it as reconditioned
Replacing my “eternal beloved”. My god!.. all she need is a little care and rest at their health clinic, daily massages, warm baths & the seasonal facelift. Perhaps some new silicon in strategic places. I don’t want them to send me prostitute... well perhaps a Pro 2017 would make me
I get attached to some of my stuff (you'll have to prise my guitars from my cold, dead, fingers) but my iPad isn't one of them.
I'm more attached to my iPod Touch actually as this was my gateway drug into iOSLand.
Yes, I was planning on getting a new Pro as a replacement but glad to save some $.
I’ve buried it in the garden
Beware, she may return a hack-ing spectre!
I went to the electronics shop today and they were most helpful.
They said they’d never had a pro go bad before, so it was kinda interesting.
I had to remove “find my iPad” with my iPhone “Clara Schumann”
because they needed to access it while repairing it. If they couldn’t fix it, it would be sent to apple. 1,5 week is normal wait period.
