Audulus AU coming soon (+ new update out now with Files support)

It's not happening for a while but will be great when it arrives. :)

  • If my memory serves me right this will be a new app and not an update to the existing version of Audulus?

No pretty sure this will be Audulus 3 still but I could be wrong. Audulus as an AU host I think will be 4.
there's an update coming soon, then another update with AU follows that one (but don't know how far off it is)

Goodie. I seldom use Audulus on my Air 2(it heats up way too fast) but I did get the desktop version a while back so if this was Audulus 4 I'd re-consider if I'll keep it or not...

Yeah since getting a pro I've been using it a lot more and realising the potential of it. The updates and roadmap are also very exciting for AUv3 Link and hosting. :)

It’s a total boffin’s playground and I have no problem investing in the Audulus universe.

Grab the user patch library from the forum, upload to Dropbox and get lost in the possibilities ... I swear I will rearrange my life one day to REALLY get into this.

Unfortunately that list seems to grow for me lately.

I need to cut my losses and accept some apps I will never put the time in and just delete them for good.

    Audulus is another one.

    ZMORS modular another.

I recommend spending some time with Mark Boyd's Curvature synth. Sounds brilliant and shows what Audulus can do (and you don't need to know how to build synths).

That looks splendid. I gotta ask though. Does it have a way to clock to other gear/apps yet ? It's the main thing that's stopped me from grabbing audulus in the past....

not sure, I haven't used it with midi clock yet. But I do know that Link is coming :)

Link alone would probably make me buy it :) does it accept external midi ? I'm assuming yes but I'd just want a confirmation.

Yes it accepts external midi and you can mdi learn the controls. Files app access is coming in the next update too.

v4 will be a separate app, not sure when that's scheduled for release but i'm hoping that AU and Link gets in before that in v3.

  • I think AU will be here before version 4. He said soon but not in the next update

  • Can you import the entire zip from the forum into Audulus or do you have to unzip in audioshare or dropbox and open them individually?

Some of the effects modules are very efficient around 1% for the analog delay for example and will be excellent as an AU friendly patch.

Other patches can grind your iPad to a halt as they were designed on non-iOS platforms with a lot more resources available to run them.

Whoa good recommendation, thanks. A3 never clicked with me so dropped it until today...all these curvature variations and performance examples are great. I never thought I’d hear such a good sound coming from Audulus; I always just looked at is as a learning tool til now.

Individual patches only as far as I can see.

You can open the posted patches on the Audulus forum directly into Audulus 3.

  • Cool, I was just hoping the Audulus file system would parse that zip. Individual through Audioshare is fine though, these are great to look at.

In the soon to be released update you’ll be able to use the File App to store patches in whatever folder structure you’d like. You’ll then be able to download zip files and unzip them to whatever location accessibible via the files app and all of the folders and sub folders will be accessible.

Brutal but probably sensible if you have other priorities. I have been doing a cull of apps recently based on the “last used” date in the storage list, amazing the stuff I grabbed and have hardly touched recently. Audulus can stay though, good to hear the file app support is coming.

Yeah, I think more standalone synths and FX will come to the library over time to make it easier to get into :)
The Curvature synth is impressive. Midi learning it to a controller is great fun. also you can trigger the synth from external sequencers too.

  • Helllloooo - thanks for posting this @Carnbot - I'm here if people have any burning questions about the new update. Here's a list of features below. The AUv3 is still in development, that will be the next update. Audulus 4 will likely host AUv3 as well, so you could use AUv3's in-line with Audulus synths, or you could even use them within patches (like Filtatron inside the delay loop to create an analog modelling delay).

We also are working on a new library of ~1000 modules and patches that will be its own update for 3 as well. We currently have somewhere around 400 made at the moment. These modules are optimized to work on all platforms and be as low-CPU as possible - we call them uModules (micro-modules).

I can make no guarantees for v4's release, but it probably won't be until end of summer/fall. There's a lot of work left to be done on v3, and v4 will require a huge amount of work to get out as well.

No ETA yet on AUv3, but the new update for iOS 11 is coming out today. Here are the features:

Audulus LLC is proud to announce the latest and most significant update to Audulus 3 yet. Audulus 3.5 integrates the fast and convenient file management provided iOS 11’s new file browser.

With a new streamlined patch browser, you can sort patches into folders, mark your favorites, and more easily share your creations with the world.

The Module Library now arranges modules in a folder hierarchy, which makes finding modules much faster. You can also search for modules and nodes as well as drag and drop patches from iCloud storage.

Also, in Audulus 3.5 on iPad, the Module Library remains open as you patch. This saves time, especially when building large patches.

Automatic highlighting, new to Audulus 3.5, makes debugging complex patches easier. Just select a node or group of modules, and their output wires will be highlighted while all others are dimmed.

Audulus 3.5 also comes with an expanded library of examples that are accessible from the create document menu. The new examples include previews of an upcoming module library redesign and massive expansion that includes graphical symbols instead of text abbreviations for control labeling.

Audulus 3.5 has also been redesigned to make it easier to release smaller updates like adding new patches, tutorials, and modules - so you can expect more frequent updates from here on out.

And finally, Audulus now runs in portrait mode on iPhone!

  • Audulus 3.5 for iOS is now released! Update away! :) - iOS 11 required

Hi Audulus_Mark, I just tried to open Audulus 3.41 on my Mac (OS 10.13.3) and it crashes. I even re-installed it with no luck. Is this known? thanks you!

  • @gkillmaster - can you email me about this at [email protected]? My guess is that you maybe have your interface sample rate set to something higher than 44.1k, which is the most common cause for a crash at the moment. We'll have support for higher sample rates in the future, though!
