Integrating old iPhones into the studio with IDAM
Anyone doing this? What apps run ok and have a usable UI on say an old iPhone 5c?
I like the idea of dedicating an old phone to a specific instrument app in the studio to free up my iPad a bit, or just to add something else fun to play with. I found that the Elastic Drums interface is ok on iPhone but most of my other music apps require a bigger screen. I’m sequencing apps on my iPad with Ableton via IDAM btw.

I'm not really answering your question properly but audiobus remote and AC sabre are excellent uses for an iPhone alongside other iOS devices in my experience.
I'm only using the gestures (tilt, roll, shuffle etc) from AC sabre but once you calibrate them to your natural range of movement it's highly expressive. Not sending notes just midi cc. Thanks to someone on here that provided this tip a while ago.
I'm using a 5c 8gb model so haven't got the space to put much on there.
These are good suggestions.
I would also add ThumbJam.
Ok so you’d recommend more to use them as little controllers. That’s actually a good idea, although I have several MIDI controllers that I use and love already, but I guess th gyroscopic and touch controls are unique.
Anyone used GyrOSC? AC Sabre seems complicated so setup. TC-Data looks amazing. Would be super fun on stage.
I'm guessing Tc-Data would be similar to TC-11, powerful but not exactly easy to pick up and play. I love TC-11 but I have to use existing presets as starting points, so many options for different amounts of fingers used etc etc
In AC Sabre, slide out the top left tab thing, hit patch, you then see the 6 gestures.
Pitch, Roll, Yaw, Shake,Shuffle and Intensity (if you have 3D Touch)
Each gesture will have a little red light which already blinks as you move the device.
Select a gesture, it will have a large 'calibrate' circle or square, touch this and hold down while moving your iPhone in a way that feels comfortable to you.
Take your finger away and the calibration is done.
Underneath you can select a midi cc number and set the min and max if desired.
The best part is the learn button, all on same page.
You hit this and it sends only the cc for that gesture.
Makes mapping the gesture to an app very easy to do.
I just use the first 3 gestures (pitch, roll and yaw) and it really does make for a very expressive controller. If you do touch the screen it will send a note, I haven't sent one by mistake yet, just wave my phone around and grin like a lunatic!
My 'tutorial' probably makes this sound more difficult than it actually is, I didn't even have to read a manual or watch a video to set this up first time trying it.

Is the iphone partner app to tc11
Yet another app I own but forgot about, thanks for the reminder @BiancaNeve!
Animoog (and Alchemy if you are still on iOS10) both work pretty well on an iPhone and sound fabulous.
Layr might also be worth a try.
If you record real instruments with mics, especially drums, the old iPhone is great as a remote for your daw, to hit record from across the room. I use TouchOSC, but there might be an Ableton specific guy for iPhone.
My experiences and point of view (and i don't use the iPhone very much for music production/noodling)
Useable for iPhone 5s (imho):
Somehow useable for iPhone 5s:
and I would add TC-11
Touchable have an iPhone version, think it's called touchable mini? It's another one that I can imagine is less fun on the smaller screen but I don't own it so perhaps someone that does can give better advice..
TC Performer is not as flexible as its big brother but it's a lot cheaper and I enjoy using it on the iPhone
Rack with 5 or so old iphones would be pretty sweet, running only one synth on each
