I quit smoking around 2 years ago, only vaporize cannabis... so much better
Been fighting advanced stage blood cancer for the last 4 years (way too much treatment, I’ve had it all )

1:1 oil is really good too
    Moderation and balance is key
I use to abuse it when I was younger

    Good luck; stay strong.

Again, sorry to hear this. I know nothing about vaping, but my partner finds smoking harsh, and vaping might suit her better as she is mainly after the medicinal benefits. What do you use to do it (and is it expensive)?

Wishing you all the best @ruggedsmooth

@Inikj A friend of mine is a long term vaper and she has found that "buy cheap, buy often" seems to be the case when choosing a vape device. It's definitely the healthier option compared to smoking joints.

  • @BlueGreenSpiral - thanks; can you just use any vaporiser then?

My friend tried many of the cheaper pen type ones and it seems that heat is the issue, they will have a short lifespan. Apparently the more expensive ones give more vape for the money. She ended up buying an expensive one used and getting a replacement mouthpiece for hygiene reasons. I am far from an expert on vaping but the model she has now is still working well after a long time.

Costs $100-$200 for a decent vaporizer. It depends if you just want to vape dry herb or if you are into extracts and oils.
I use the very expensive Storz-Bickel brand vaporizes (The Volcano, Mighty, Crafty) for dry herb
Because they are supposed to be the safest and are I believe one of the only to be medically certified. I know a guy who runs a online business that sells them so I can get them for a good price.
It’s hard to adjust sometimes if you are a long time smoker and trying to switch to vape.
I had to quit smoking for a little while to clear my system then start.
The high is so much cleaner and you can actually get things done
You also save a lot by using less cannabis

The solo II and Air II made by ARIZER are a good option mid tier portable vaporizer

I stay far far away from the cheap cheap stuff. It’s a new unregulated market so a lot of cheap china crap you have to watch out for.

Thanks for the kind words. This cancer shit is getting everybody these days. It’s like every 1 in 4 people almost nowadays. Be aware of changes in your body and go to doctor for check ups. Early detection is the best life saver. Unfortunately for me I was the typical guy and never went to Dr. Until I was on my death bed. Stay healthy my friends

I was hoping somebody could give better advice on what and what not to buy, thanks to @ruggedsmooth for stepping in!

  • Sublingual extracts can be worth trying too. Just a couple drops under the tongue.

  • I was going to suggest baking a cake, but that can go wrong very easily.
Especially if the munchies hit and you only have the cake!

  • ^ lol :)

Thanks for all the advice guys. I will investigate further. Cheers.

  • I have an original model Volcano that still works great after 14 years of nearly daily use. I paid about $400 dollars for it back then though, but damn did I get my money’s worth! Still getting value from that medical-grade vaping device this morning. :)

Ah the volcano, brings back memories!
Admittedly fairly hazy memories, many coffee shops in the Netherlands will have one you can ask to use.

  • Pax units are the best IMO for portable and casual vaping, well worth the money. They are the Apple of portable units. Reliable and simple to use and CLEAN.

For at home bag use, Arizer Extreme Q is a great deal and much cheaper than a Volcano.

  • The few people here using daily for 20+ years and describe themselves as productive, creatively inspired, ect. You seem to see the habit as helpful, because unlike most users, you are creative and contribute to society. But don't you ever wonder if it has hindered you from reaching your full potential instead? As in being the greatest instead of just great? Hope I didn't ruin anybody's high.

As for me, i smoked in my twenties and the frequency slowly diminished from daily into month long abstinences by the time i quit at 32. I'm now 42. I simply couldn't hack it anymore. Depression, anxiety, aural hallucinations. Then i was learning of my own family history of mental illness so i quit. Had i been more knowledgeable of the different strains and stuff, sounds like my experience could have been generally better.

@Blipsford_Baubie There is unfortunately very little research on this but from hanging around different forums that talk about the negative effects of the plant, it seems that something like 20-25% of people are at risk of harmful effects after long term constant or near constant use. Even then it takes something like 18 months to 2 years to end up with major problems.

It seems that those of us who fall into this category will have an extremely difficult time when attempting to use in moderation no matter how long we have stayed away.

I think this is a big factor in why people are very divided about this plant..

Edit to add that the new types of weed are very different to what we find in nature, the Dutch government was trying to put a limit on how much THC should be allowed in marijuana and that anything over the limit would be treated the same as cocaine, heroin etc. The shops there are not allowed to buy the products that they sell so it proved impossible to implement but makes sense to me. Quality hash didn't cause me anxiety or get in the way of social activities and the ratio of THC to CBD is about equal. The Dutch hash (ice-olater) made from THC rich strains tasted nasty and had similar effects on me as the weed did.

Another edit to say that those with existing mental health problems can end up in a bad place almost immediately especially when smoking these stronger strains.

  • Reading this thread again has been interesting. I’m pulling for the people who are using weed as medicine.

For that matter I’m also pulling for the people who use weed for inspirational reasons, or even recreational reasons. I hope that the feds don’t actually go through with a crackdown on marijuana.

During my weediest days I was good at growing my own plants. It’s amazingly easy to do if you just start out with great seeds. A few female plants can produce way more flowers than one household can easily use, even if that particular household tries really hard to indulge.

During some of my posts here this year I might have given the impression that my life has been a self-destructive downward spiral. That hasn’t been the case. I'm doing really well now, and when I was young I had one really good run with an extended upward spiral. Marijuana was one fun, and meaningful, part of that earlier era.

Listing my mistakes might be educational, but I don’t feel like getting into that now, so I’ll just say that all of the other drugs I took were mistakes that led to even more mistakes. I suppose that I could call marijuana a gateway drug, but that doesn’t seem accurate. None of my friends screwed up their lives with drugs like I did.

I'm 37 now, and I’ve been drug-free for over 10 years. I feel like I could smoke a joint or drink a beer, and I think that I would probably be OK with it, but I also think that I might hate myself for taking the risk, and self-hatred happens to be the slippery slope that I don’t want to step onto. I’m definitely going to stay sober. I think my life depends on it.

Really though I’m a stoner who just doesn’t happen to get stoned. I have to admit that I’m envious of you people who can still enjoy weed. Take a toke, or vape a vape, or bubble up a bong hit for me.

Great response, I can really relate to these words :)

I'm glad I started this thread, wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not. Everybody's input has been interesting and it has given me a lot of help and perspective

  • About ten, no, fourteen years ago I started brewing my own beer. I went from quite crap at it to obsessively accurate at it (I was also like that with developing film, having been a professional photographer long before, but still developing film in the years I was brewing my beer – cleanliness, measurements, temperature, timing were all important to my process), to basically not bothering and buying beer at the supermarket again.

Only in the past few weeks – well, since the beginning of January – have I decided to try wine seriously for the first time. I’ve always been wary of wine, as that’s where snobs are, and that’s where you’ll hear talking out of their arses, and that’s where everything I hate about that sort of cork-sniffing hyper-critical parametric must-be-correct arsehole overpaid wanker mentality is.

Today I chose some wine. With my eyes closed, I span around in Asda and with my eyes still shut, grabbed a bottle. I didn’t like the way it looked, but liked the one next to it, so chose that. It’s lovely. Greek red wine – Nyx, Mavrodaphne of Patras. I’ll be getting that one again. Of course, I got some beer too, but that’s for later. Maybe tomorrow.

    Fuck, I hate snobs.

  • I have about six drinks a year, four of which are over the XMas holidays, (two at the office party, two at turkey dinner) with the other two or so being a spontaneous summer afternoon. Love the taste, love the effect (for a couple hours) but even two drinks seem to give me a two day hangover.

  • Which they followed up with:

  • My Dad was born in 1950, so he was 17 when Sgt. Pepper came out AND he was in San Francisco to boot. Needless to say, drugs including marijuana were a part of his life until the day he died at age 49 in 2000.

I didn’t try anything, alcohol or drugs all throughout high school and after, even though my “friends” sure tried to peer pressure me into it. To rebel in my family was to NOT get messed up, because nearly everyone drank, did pills, etc. from Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, etc.

But there was a lot of love in my family, I had a great childhood and to his credit my Dad told me “you have the mutant gene, probably best you don’t try anything”. But at 20 years old I heard “You never heard Rubber Soul high?” enough to get curious and decided to try weed for myself.

I DO NOT regret early marijuana at all. It opened my mind to different ways of perception and was certainly a way into my search for spiritual growth, etc. But the doors it opened quickly lead into a room where I just sat wasting years doing pot and other drugs, quickly robbing me of my passion, drive and capability to make wise choices.

Yes, Marijuana can open a door to a room worth taking a look into, but the key is to take what you learned in that room and soon leave that building altogether. Using any substance in excess leads to problems that no one can ever prepare for. You may think you can “handle” the threat of addiction but there’s millions upon millions of struggling addicts & alcoholics and billions of dead ones to prove you wrong.

If everyday pot use is your bag, more power to you. If you can use it in moderation then great, especially medicinally which I believe it has a place. But I know I can’t use it. It took nearly half my life to get back on the good foot and to stay away from drugs & alcohol. After years now being clean & sober I can honestly say, for me, it’s better this way.

I’m content with Music being my only addiction.

Best of luck to those who’re in a tough spot & be safe...

Good addition. Wish I had fully understood this decades ago. Truth is it's probably better posted over at the auxy forum where the age range is younger and the needs more immediate...

    Have you tried vaping yet?
It's a lot cheaper and the transition is very easy in my experience.
In the past I would always crack after a few drinks, the vape solves this for me.

A joyetech AIO is the price of 2 packs of cigarettes here and is really simple to use while giving nice taste and battery lasts exactly a day.

Any decent vape shop will set it up for you and let you try different flavours of liquid before making a decision.
