First Look at Gadget for Switch
Is this the worst idea you've ever heard? Or what?

Well, the multiplayer part has the potential to be Nintendo’s biggest friendship-ruiner since Gyromite.
As if music wasn't enough of a commodity, here comes millions more kids creating loops.
And crowd will buy them as IAP in iOS apps

There’s history with KORG and Nintendo, anyone have DS-10??
it’s so funny my entry into music production and composition started with video games. I remember having a game on and old playstation that was basically just dragging and dropping loops, and a little mixing. It was kind of cheesy, but it really made me start to see music in a whole new way.
i’m not a big player of video games, but i actually bought a nintendo ds, just to be able to play with the ds-10. it’s actually what inspired me to dig deeper in the whole synth world.
My kids have a nintendo switch, and i’m really looking forward to this game for them. They see me, on my computer and ipad doing music stuff, and try playing along with me, but there is a step between, that i think they need, and gadget on switch ;is that transitional step that may get them more interested.
Or maybe they don’t care lol. but should be interesting to see
Was it MTV Music Generator perchance?
I'd buy a Switch for this
Great idea, but the implementation looks a tad awkward from that video. Probably one of the worst vids on a piece of music gear in a long time though. We need Nick Batts to have a look!
Amazing... they can build gadget for this BS but not for Android...
They probably could, but can't be bothered.
What’s wrong with kids creating loops? When people get bored listening to their tracks, they’ll look for ways to make it less loopy. Ideally loops become merely an organization tool for different song sections, without SOUNDING loopy. That’s how I see loops anyway
Glad someone else knows.
Yes!! that’s totally it! thanks. I have been trying to think of the name of it for years. haha that’s what started my addiction, now I’m a music production junkie. lol
Exactly.
Also, the Switch is cool. The Kid has one and we've ended up with lots of cross-generational shouting and laughing many nights. No idea about Gadget on it etc., but let's not get too embedded on the the lawn just yet...
Right on the money. "Oh no, we want our kids playing RPGs rather than being creative" says no parent.
Bing, bing, bing. I see it as a the right kind of gateway drug....(says no parent often).
Holy shit!
No friggin way, because that’s the one I started with too! Matter of fact, when I got into PC music production, I bought FL Studio SPECIFICALLY for the fact they used to have that lego block sequencer (which has been long obsolete for some time now). That was the natural evolution into PC music making.
Some of my (very old now) DS music vids....
Can someone tell me about this Nintendo device of speak you which?
I’m about the most non-games person around. Well, apart from working as art editor on several high profile games magazines here (ST Action; Amiga Action; GB Action; Super Action, Bad Influence Magazine (which lasted two issues but I was only on the first, and refused to have anything to do with the second); some console magazine at Newsfield the name of which I can’t remember and a few others I’ve forgotten I worked on) – but I was notable even then for never having played a game in my life nor being the slightest bit interested in such.
Is this thing worth getting for serious stuff like music? Does it have a serious side? Is it too big and bulky? How long does it last on batteries? Is it basically a toy? What is the screen like? How is it controlled – touch, and what else? Is it one of those right-handed dominant pile of uselessnesses?
It’s a hybrid console/portable gaming device. I’ve never tried one but it is currently the hottest console on the market and a grand slam hit for Nintendo. It uses motion controls (joy cons) that can be held separately and have gyroscopes etc... it’s less powerful than a Ps4 or Xbox1 but it is portable so it can do much more. The battery life I hear is about 3 hrs. Once you reutn home you can dock it and use it on a big screen tv.
I don;t think there’s any harm in having Gadget on a game console, if anything it should lead to waaay more Gaget$... which can be good for music and bad for budgets... But damn if Gadget isn’t a masterpiece of contemporary software. It just does things so well.... might even help us reach new audiences...
Hmmmmm, friends....
Nope, don’t have any.
The Nintendo Switch is a fabulous game system. We got one for the kids too and well, we are ALL enjoying it. Fab music in the Mario games, these composers are excellent. Anyhow, the Gadget could be the ultimate gateway to music making or just really fun gaming while getting the creative juices flowing. Wouldn't it be cool if you could arrange tunes in Gadget for Switch and then import them into your Switch games?
I think this is cool. Hopefully it's as much fun as Gadget iOS.
Kinda OT, kinda not:

Well it can be played simultaneously by up to four players so I'd say it's four times the fun.
